Diarrhea, Nausea, loss of appetite 9 weeks post Gall Bladder Removal

Hi Everyone!

I had my gallbladder removed 9 weeks ago due to multiple gallstones. I had a tiny bit of diarrhea for a couple of days after surgery but that cleared up quickly. I resumed a low fat bland diet for a month and things were going well and I slowly started to introduce some normal foods into my diet but being careful of fatty foods.

The trouble started when I tried to introduce some cheese into my diet 2 weeks ago. Since then I have been suffering with diarrhea all day and sometimes it just runs out of me like water - yellow water just like bile! I haven't been able to leave the house for 2 weeks! I have only been able to eat some boiled potato, toast and a banana on some days and other days nothing. I am not so nauseous but have no appetite and am starting to feel a bit weak from lack of nutrition. I have been taking mineral replacement sachets.

I have some pain under my right lower ribs but it is just a dull ache and a bit tender inside not severe. No bowel cramping either.

If anyone else has suffered from these symptoms I would love to hear from you and if you were able to find anything to help.

I wasn't told by the medics to be prepared for this and am a bit shocked about what is going on! I have a GP appointment on Monday morning but it would be good to hear of any other experiences before I go.

Thank you.

Thanks Melekie. So sorry you are suffering. Is your problem due to not having a gallbladder or something else as you say you didn't have issues for a long while. Thanks for the tip of what to eat. I have seen the Dr today and he is doing some tests. In the meantime I have some immodium or psyllium husk.

Hi 2chr2015. So sorry only just picked up your message. Such a shame that you are feeling poorly. Not fair after having surgery and wanting to get back to normal.

My Dr arranged a scan and some blood tests and all were normal. She explained that it can take a long time for some people to adjust to not having a gallbladder and suggested trying to eat a low fat diet. I did eat a bland diet for 1 month after surgery but when I introduced fat back into my diet my system just couldn't cope. No one in the hospital warned me of this.

I have since stuck to non fatty foods and no alcohol and am feeling so much better. I think I over indulged in fatty foods which caused the awful symptoms I was having. I do have some fat but don't eat chips anymore or very spicy food.

I can tolerate a little low fat cheese so maybe things are improving at last!

What are your symptoms? Are you watching your diet?

      Hope this has helped.
