Diarrhea problems, will it go away?

I have been on Sertraline 50mg for 6 weeks now. I met with my doctor last Monday and all was going good. He wants me to stay on for 6 months. I started it after our dog passed away and I was having panic attacks. Panic attacks run in my family as does seasonal affective disorder.

At weeks 3-4 I had some night sweats but they went away. Overall that is the only symptom I experienced till mid week last week. (Appologize in advance for this yucky topic) I started having liquid diarrhea and it has lasted for 6 days. It seemed a little better yesterday but today was worse again. My sotmach isn't feeling 100% but it's not really feeling bad. It's worse in the morning too. As I haven't made any diet changes or other med changes I started researching and see that this is a possible side affect. I have tried yogurt, Kefir and probiotic hoping it helps.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering if, like the night sweats, it is temporary or it continued for others? I am giving it till Wednesday (1 week mark) and will contact that doctor if there is no change.

I take my meds at night just after dinner and am wondeering if I change to take them with breakfast maybe that will make a difference.

    Hey,

The diarrhoea for me was a semi regular side affect over a 2.5 year period. Like you I took mine in the evening so not sure if that played a part in it. It should subside in the short term though. Does weird and wonderful things to your body sertraline. Strangely enough, I've not experienced diarrhoea once in the 7 months I've been off them.

Hope you get the relief you need soon.

    All the best smile

Hello Jay I too experienced the same problem for a good few weeks at the beginning to the extent I lost a stone in weight. Thankfully it did subside, I'm now 3 months in and its fine, it only happens occasionally now. I take my tablet at night with my evening meal as well but I don't think changing the time will make any difference as when I used to take the tablet in the morning it was the same. It will calm down, in the meantime Imodium instant are good if you just take them as and when you need them but not all the time, also drink plenty of water. Hope it clears up soon

Hey there, I am really happy that you are doing well on 50mg. Yes I have experienced the same issues and I have been on them for 8 weeks. I seem to be leveling out now too which is good but I do still suffer from anxiety attacks. I used to take my pill at night but ened up I could not sleep. I now take it in the morning as it gives your system time during the day to absorb the medication better.

    Hi

how strange you should say that, I experience the same problem, but I have been on 50mg for about a year. The diarrhoea started about 5 months ago, I was ou when I had really bad pains in my stomach. Unfortunately I didn't get home in time. Since that time it has happened quiet a few time. I go to the toilet and then 5 minutes after I have to go again. U.K. Went to,the doctor and she said I had a bug in the stomach which can last between 5 weeks and 5 months. You need to have yoghurt to put Bactria back in the bowel.

i take my tablet in the morning.
