Diarrhea still 10 months post colon resection ! Any suggestions

Posted , 5 users are following.

I'm 10 months post op and still have freq bouts of diarrhea. I have tried various forms of fiber that had left me with painful bloating. I now take 1 fiber wafer( instead of 2 . I had robotic surgery 4/2018. I had 12-18 inches removed from the sigmoid and descending colon due to mod to severe diverticula and diverticulitis that would not go away.

I'm becoming a prisoner in my own house. I'm afraid of having an accident. Still glad I had the surgery as that pain is gone!

ANY suggestions?

I'd like to add to Vic's suggestions. Last year I advised a lady who was also feeling trapped. I suggested she go out - just for a short while - but wearing a pad and carrying spare panties and wet wipes, just in case. She plucked up courage to go out and as far as I know has not looked back since. For her it was a question of confidence. If you are prepared you can cope. As for walking, it could just be up and down the street, round the block. I live in a cup-de-sac and went up and down that.

Thanks everyone! I think I might have found several causes from the food diary. Definitely back on Metamucil it seems to agree with my gut better. I have also separated my meal and liquids which has helped. Trying the low fat , high carb approach. Fruits and vegetables are also a challenge. Like I said before the list of what I cant eat is longer than before surgery!

I do need to exercise more! I was great for a few months but it's a polar tundra in Chicago this winter.

I do leave the house and am always prepared for an accident . IVE never had one outside thankfully . My purse is now the size of a suitcase! I know I don't go out as much as I did.
