We'll I'm afraid iv had to go back up to 5mg again,I think I was trying to come of them to fast, after 22 years,I wish I'd never taken even one,I was told by my gp,that cutting down 1 mg a month,I'd be fine, got down to 3'&ive never experienced anything like this in my life,I was lyn on the floor, not being able to function,I'm now being referred to a shrink,to see, what's wrong with me,when in fact there's nothing wrong with me,apart from,I can't seem to get of these tablets,as they do stuff to your brain, chemical imbalance or something,I'm, still going to try again, but, very slowly next time,

That's what's happened to me twice,iv had doctors who have retired or moved away& have had doctors that just won't prescribe it,I ended up taking even more due to the anxiety of being told that alone, the doctors basically have your life in there hands, that's why I'm going to see a phyciatrict,to make sure this doesn't happen to me again,

Yes, it's an ongoing roundabout of, running out, how will I get more, overcoming withdrawals and then it starts again.  Increases the anxiety ten fold.  Glad your seeing a physic.   wink

Haha,I'm having to wait for the physic,as there's such a long waiting list, just hoping its one that understands these drugs,my gp is really nice, but I think, there comparing it to alchol&heroin, which is not the case, these doctors need to be sent on a training course about diazepam,& the dangers,of telling them you just cut down 1mg a month, then your back to normality, cool

I know the waiting lists for physiatrists are very long, which does not help your situation. If you have not been yet, just a tip dont ask for Valium outright, that sends a red flag to him or her.  Discuss your life and how bad your anxiety and panic really are and that you have tried all things natural like, meditation, exersise,  As they usually want to put you on a anti depressant, which is fine but they are nothing like valium, can take up to 6 weeks to take effect and if you have been on the other meds I personally didnt felt they worked but we are all different.

Yes doc's think we are all just addicts like you said Alcohol, herion etc.  They put us on this stuff to begin with then just want to Clean their hands of us when they realise what they have done.  We have been their guinea pigs with these Benzo drugs, we should not be made feel like we are criminals and ashamed.  My Pysic said to me, if you had diabetes you take medication wouldnt you? I said yes, he said well this Panic disorder and anxiety is a disease so you should not be ashamed of taking something for it.  First time someone understood, not completly but at least a little.  Prob is most of us have been on higher doses and wether it be doc's or phycs think you only need 1mg a day when you def need more.  They stop prescribing cause they are addictive, we now find out so logically it should be  long slow process so we dont go mad, litterally with the way we feel.

Be honest with you Physic but not too needy.  Let him no what you have been through, through no fault of your own and how bad you are feeling, cant leave the house severe anxiety, no sleep etc.  Then they will usually give you some and monitor you, he does need to no how much you were on and they were trying to take you down too fast as he then may do it alot slower  I've tried so many tiimes but on the Clinic way which is 7 days,  If you have been on alot they will start you on say 40mgs 4 times a day and drop you 10 mgs every day.  They think that after that it's out of you system in fact because of it's long half life it can stay in your system for 6 months or more, Even the specialised clinic did not understand this, unbeleivable also what they dont think of is your brain and body needs to adjust very slowly, so you will often leave the clinic feeling just ok, it's when you get home it starts to really hit you due to Val's very long half life.  I wont go on and on any further, i no you no what im tallking about.  Just hope its going well for you mate. Take care.eek

There's a surprise..a waiting list ..ah well at least your doctor is supportive..I font know what a normál life is !

But how is a doctor supportive when they don't have a clue, about the side effects of these drugs,iv had to ask to see a shrink myself,as the doctor doesn't know what there dealing with,iv had to ask to be referred,& neither do I know what a normal life is,it's cost me more than I'm going to say,

I wonder where my life could be if I had not taken the advice of a doctor and taken that first pill.  FRUSTRATING.  What life!

    Hi Brando,

I have managed to come off diazepam and have been free of it for five weeks.

I went from 8mg to zero

    I was taking 30 10mg a week.

I feel a lot better with a clear mind instead of the dulled brain diazepam gives you.

Its worth sticking to the reduction

You can get 5mg in a syrup which will help you reduce slower.

You will get there, you are doing well.

That's good news, how long were you on it for,iv had to go back up to 10 mg a day,iv been on it for over 20 years,& to my understanding they don't prescribe to anyone now as they no it's so dangerous,I'm glad to hear your of it&please never touch it again, lol smile

      Hi Linda,

I am so happy to hear your news, you have done so well.  I have had so much trouble tappering down, everyone's different I suppose.  How long were you taking 30 10mg a week for?  To go from 8mg to zero and be free of it for five weeks is amazing, well done.  I've been on them for 8 years, finding it hard.  I live in Australia and we have very strict laws here, now they no they are so bad for us.  I'm still prescribed some because I was one of the original guinea pigs.  I've had horrible seziures trying to come off them, which of course scares me.  Not to mention all the really bad side effects.  Did you go thru any of this while you were coming off?

This is such a positive outcome and so happy for you,  WELL DONE. biggrin

I used to get prescribed vallium. The key to getting off it is make sure you are in your most relaxed happy place before you stop it. For me that was the beach so I stayed there for a month and took the big hit. Don't go completly cold turkey on it either. Take it down a bit at a time. Hope this helps.

I've read most of the post on hear and now I'm worried about the Diazepam I'm taking.  I first tried it about 5 years ago when my back went into spasm.  I was on 5mgs four times a day and came off it no probs.  But to me it was a wonder drug and when ever I felt low I'd pop one of the spare pills I had and even managed to get some off a mate who at the time had been on it for years and was glad to be off it.  Then when I colapsed on holiday and was taken into hospital they dosed me up on the stuff so much that all I wanted to do was sleep.  I got back home and the GPs here tried me on many different ADs but I always begged for some Diazepam just to take the edge off things.  I never take it more than four times in a row and its only once a month that I may do that.  But I am worried its a drug I class as my crutch.  I would panic if I didn't have any at all even though I'm not taking it regular. Is this an addictaion?  I heard Xanax is a repacment for it.  So I'm going to ask my GP if I can try that.  I suffer with GAD and PTSD.  Its been nearly a year now of hell.  The worse part is songs constantly going round and round in my head.  I just want it all to stop and to get my life back as I know you all do to.

Why dont they just stop prescribing these drugs..... I valium or any other of the miserable psych drugs. It's lazy doctors. People are humans ie creatures we weren't born with a valium deficiency or other prescription med deficiency.

Stop the stupid prescribing. None of these drugs are needed.... Good old fashioned discussion with a doctor who will spend more than the ten minutes allocated to you.

I think k these doctors should be made to take every drug they prescribe themselves g for six months. If they aren't harmful and stop sadly beneficial then they should t have any problem doing this...... But most doctors would take what they prescribe

Moral of the story is don't go to a general practitioner, I don't get sent to a psychiatrist... Run away as fast as ad your can.

Go to a herbalist or a homoeopath or naturopath. They can refer you to blood tests if you need them.

Ive turned into a maniac from valium and before that seraquel and other antidepressants thanks to stupid doctors diagnosis for relationship problems at home.
