Diazepam - I have panic attacks, anxiety and feel anxious all ...

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi - I have panic attacks, anxiety and feel anxious all day on my current meds. I've tried a good few different meds, none of which have helped me feel "normal". I've asked my doctor repeatedly for Diazepam and he refuses to prescribe them. The only way I have of coping is to drink an exceptionally large amount of vodka when I feel anxious. This is both toxic and a depressive and is more than likely having an adverse effect on my condition.

Not sure what to do - where do you go when what seems like the ideal answer is witheld ?

Krakers.

I find this post particularly heartrending.

    (a) drugs have been invented to help people with whatever illness, be it physical or mental. Doctors are scared to prescribe them because of the media frenzy , and (b) alcohol is freely available and can have far more severe side effects than diazepam as expressed in the previous post.

This is crazy. Prescribe sensibly, doctors please, but be kind to those suffering this kind of torture.

I'm not a drug addict or pusher - I just think we need some balance here.

Perhaps you are having an adverse reaction to a medication or withdrawal reaction from a medication? Are you using zopiclone or zolpidem sleeping pills (which can have withdrawal effects during the day of anxiety and agitation etc). Also perhaps you have an alcohol addiction and the anxiety and panic is a withdrawal symptom from your excess alcohol consumption or toxic effect on your brain from alcohol misuse. Pills are rarely the answer and will only mask the symptoms. You need to find the cause of your anxiety and panic which may very well be related to your alcohol misuse.

Have a look at this page.

Go to a different GP explain you need a short term prescription until you stabilise and then ask to be referred to mental health support services who know what they are doing

Hang in there it will be ok

hi k. i have had diazapam in the past, and like you the doc wont let me have them for anxiety..no matter how much i ask him..it seems ridiculus..who are they manufactured for if people like ourselves cannot have them.....

anyway, the doc has now put me on citalopram..anti-anxiety tabs. had them for 4 days now..nothing happining at the moment, but need to give it time.as it is a course rather than taking one when i feel like it like diazapam.

dont know whether you vcould suggest this to your doctor??

    hope thgis helps..take care alyx

Diazepam along with all the other Benzodiazepines are highly addictive and the reason doctor's are reluctant to prescribe them is because there are thousand's of people desperately trying to get off them. i think they now realise that they could have a massive law suit on their hand's.

after 28 years of addiction to Benzo's i'm glad to be finally off them.

they are nothing more than poison, as are any other drug's.

If there is one piece of advice I can give is DO NOT TAKE DIAZEPAM ! I used to suffer severe panic attacks and anxiety and was put on a large amount of diazepam 7 years ago, I wish I had never taken it, the pills will only mask a deep routed psychological problem that you need to address. Cognitive behaviour therapy groups can help you understand your triggers for your anxiety, They will also help you to cope with your panic attacks . I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, DO NOT TAKE ANY BENZODIAZEPINES !

I hope this helps you good luck , yours sincerely Dr Lecter.
