DIAZEPAM WITHDRAWAL? PELVIC AND RECTAL PAIN?
Posted , 6 users are following.
Hi there,
I have to put this bluntly, not a nice subject, can anyone identify with this?
I have had gastric and abdominal cramps recently during a slow withdrawal, 1mg per day each month.
NOW I have pain on sitting down, just like a red hot poker, also painful cramps like period pain which I have not known for a long time.
I have searched for an answer, the doctors know nothing.
Please has anyone had something similar

Hi Anne,
Your withdrawal schedule sounds quite rapid, how long have you been taking diazepam? I'd suggest you go back to your Dr and speak to him, also Google The Ashton manual for a safe tapering schedule. I'm going through the same process myself, a year and a bit ago I was on 20mg per day but have now dropped it down to 9mg per day. It's a slow process but you will get there.
Good luck.

I am finding life very difficult, up until 3 months ago I was doing fine on my reductions. I am working with an addiction specialist and my doctor is taking the advice from him.
I am stuck on 14mg per day for the last 2 months. The reduction schedule was originally 2mg per day per month but I insisted it was slowed down to 1mg/day per month. That is a half a mg per fortnight.
I have been taking these tablets for 22 years.
You have done very well and obviously at a steadier pace than myself. I will consult my addiction specialist who I would add deals with people coming off many other drugs street and alcohol and I feel he does not have the expertise as the diazepam addictions cases they deal with are in single figures!!!!!
No one can explain these pains and my last visit to the doctor was a waste of time.
Regards

Glad to know these pains are common, not an easy thing to talk about. I have told my addiction specialist that I want to go much slower.
Some of the reductions in the Ashton manual seem quite rapid but the information is excellent.
Grateful for your message

This is part of the withdrawal because benzos act on the gaba receptors in the brain affecting muscle tension. I am going through this myself and it is hell. The only comforting aspect is the thought that these spasms will go. It is just hanging on in there til they do. I will never ever take any of these benzos again as long as I live.xx

Sorry to hear that you are going through such a bad time. I am being persuaded by friends and relatives that I have a strong case for compensation???
Nearly 22 years of my life have been marred by being on these devil drugs, lost never to be returned. At 62 I feel that I have missed so much and now I have the withdrawal to cope with.
My doctor has put me on antibiotics as I tend to have bouts of diverticulitis and things are improving very slowly.
all the inflammatory markers in my blood tests were up and she also wants me to go for a pelvic scan to check for ovarian abnormalities which is scary. when asked if these symptoms were due to withdrawal I was told they had nothing to do with it.
I beg to differ, even if my body is at a low from the withdrawal.
Chin-up, feel for you.

If we say yes it is to do with wd then drs will dismiss us and not investigate so safer to say NO I doubt it. After all we are not drs are we! Keep strong , people say these signs and symptoms go in time. Problem is hanging on in there and praying for them to go like NOW e

Hiya Pauline,
How are you doing?Feeling any better?
Yes you are right about the doctors, am having the scan next Wed, having just finished a course of antibiotics feeling a bit better.
My addiction specialist is taking it very seriously and has asked me in for a clinical check up next week too, so it's a week of some sort of results I hope.
Here's hoping you are OK?

are you sure you dont have a hemorrhoid or fissure? routine change in meds can cause gastric issues, which can lead to constipation and or diarrhea, which can cause both issues.

I unfortunately had 2 prolapsed internal roids, that i made myself go nuts over. Thought i was dying! Couldn't sleep for almost 3 months, sever health anxiety. Finally after 3 months went to a colorectal specialist, had them banded around 3 weeks ago. So finally was prescribed Xanax .25 for anxiety. Getting old sucks. Had id known what i do now, id have taken much better care of myself 😒😫
