Did anyone have blood in their actual stool?

I've had hemorrhoids forever. Normally it's just blood when I wipe. Now I normally don't look at my poop, but today there was actual blood in/on the stool(just one side) , with what looked like a squirt of blood in the water. I know I was straining.

I've already scheduled a colonoscopy, but until I go I'm kinda panicking. Have any other hemorrhoid sufferers experienced anything similar and it didn't turn out be be their doom?

Hi Ryan. Having bright red blood in your stool, in the toilet, and on the toilet paper is pretty normal for hemorrhoid sufferers. Just take a deep breath and don't panic. You're definitely not dying and it's typically what hemorrhoids do once they reach a certain size from being agitated too much.

Your best alternative here is to change your diet now. Increase your fiber intake to 30g - 40g every day. Also, get some Tucks medicated witch hazel pads and try to get some of the witch hazel to leak down inside your bum after you have a bowel movement. You don't need a lot to go in, but using witch hazel is effectively useless if it isn't directly contacting the hemorrhoids.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you leave surgery as the last possible resort. It is extremely painful and dangerous in my humble opinion. There is a high potential for infection post-surgery and many weeks and possibly months of healing.
