Did GP or rheumatologist diagnose you?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I've had painful trochanteric bursitis for a year, along with pain in various joints - I've also got osteoarthritis.  The last time I saw the GP I mentioned my tiredness and tender muscles, particularly in the tops of my arms.  Fibromyalgia was mentioned and next week I'll be having blood tests to rule out Polymyalgia Rheumatica or any thryroid problems.  I just wondered what the next step may be if these are clear.  I'm already on Nortriptyline and have been told to raise the dosage gradually up to 50mg.  Would my GP diagnose me with fibromyalgia, or do I need to see a rheumatologist?

Either can, it's such a hard Syndrome to diagnose..I ended up talking to a lady that suggested I look it up..I did..then I printed info out to show my doctor..needless to say 2 weeks later I was diagnosed, I was also diagnosed a month later by a Consultant..I was sent to who apparently diagnosed many illness that was his speciality ..but I was diagnosed with Srogens Syndrome a few years before..and many people also  usually has Fibro too..so I learnt later..Risie Ido hooe  you get the diagnoses soon.,it certainly helps if you can give it a name...be blessed..:-) xx

    Hello Rosie,

After many tests to eliminate any thig ele. over a 2 year period, my Doc suggested Fibro, and refered me to rheumatologist. He gave me the diagnosis. He only repeated what the Doc had said, and agreed wih the drugs he gave me, namely Amitriptylene. That is my experience, others might be different. I do know that the rheumotologist does give the diagnosis in a lot of cases.

    Take care, Anne

Hiya Rosiemags, I've never been referred to anyone but only recently been diagnosed at a new gp surgery. My old surgery had mentioned it after me going back and forth for 3 years but they never actually confirmed or wrote it in my notes. Just chronic pain, crams, tiredness. My first appointment at a nee gp surgery I was diagnosed, given Ametriptiline (sorry about spelling) new painkillers and he also printed out info for me with follow up appiontments but no mention of referals.

Hi, I was diagnosed by my consultant for rheumatoid arthritis,  and I just thought I was having a flare up,  never even heard of fibromyalgia before that. Now I'm on more meds for this condition and on sick leave :-(
