Did I do the right thing??

I'm 1 week in to having my gb removed, I expected the soreness, pain, etc, my sister also had it done and has been fine since. I have just started on high dose antibiotics as doc thinks 2 of the wounds are slightly infected. I'm now experiencing awful nausea and acid reflux, constantly feeling like everything is repeating on me. I already take lanzoprozole.
I'm really worried now as I've read so many awful stories about people constantly having this acid and nausea, I never had this before. I managed my symptoms by diet, not having anything 'nice' and avoiding fatty foods etc. I thought after having gb our I would be able to have nice food again. Now I feel worse and wishing I hadn't had it done.

Hi Gayle, I think I may have spoken to you recently. Please remember its early days your only 1 week after having your gallbladder out, I felt really rubbish at that point even at 2 weeks I wasn't feeling great it was 3 weeks before I started to drive and going back to work but I really wasn't 100%. I know I have a few other issues at the moment but not from my gallbladder, you will start to eat normal foods again but take it easy. I'm still nervous about trying fish and chips because of the fat content!
I went out to dinner for the first time last week and that was 4 months after my op, yes I was nervous but I did order some lovely food and I wasn't ill afterwards. The only thing I find is that I can't eat a big meal otherwise I do feel uncomfortable but I expect that eating small amounts for so long my stomach isn't use to it.
give it time, your insides take along time to heal and everyone heals at a different rate so please don't rush it. We're not very good these days at resting and doing what we're told, we want it all immediately and I'm afraid that doesn't happen with this. Some do have issues afterwards but sometimes its just as your body heals and they get better and then go from this site.
The amount of people who have longer term issues is small compared to those who recover fully so please concentrate on getting yourself well rather than worry about issues that may never happen.
Take care, rest and get youself well. xx

Hi Katherine! Thank you for what you just wrote that's everything I want to hear now, I'm 3 days out and even though I have no pain I don't feel good ( it could be the anesthesia) I feel bloated when I eat and also nauseas, I'm eating just soup , oatmeal and liquids as water, tea and Gatorade , I'm walking inside my home 3x a day but today I had my first BM and even though it wasn't diarrhea it wasn't fun( cramps and nauseas before) I just hope it will go away bc it was my main symptom before but followed by diarrhea
Thank you again for your nice words , you are right sometimes we want to much too soon!

Hi, I phoned up the gastro dept as I was worried at a week as I felf so bad, I was fine and everything I was experiencing was perfectly normal and I hadn't had a BM until about day 10 so I just put it down to the way my body deals with things.
I was sat on the settee for the majority of my recovery period just getting up to make cups of tea and initially I only ate biscuits as I really didn't feel like food, then added toast and other simple foods but only small amounts until I felt like I could eat more.
They say that you should feel a little better each day but it does take time.
things will improve, but please rest and eat little but often and don't overdo it.
Let me know how you get on. x

Thankyou all. I'm just feeling really down about it and I know and completely understand that I'm still early days so have to give it time to heal. I going to stop taking the antibiotics as they are making me feel so ill, sick, acid reflux etc, I really don't think I have an infection as I have no temperature... I think the only reason the doc gave me them is because my wounds were abit weepy (and I think that was due to straining to go for a bm)
I have just read so many awful stories from people saying how bad they are months after, and I thought this was meant to make me feel better and enable me to eat foods without panicking!

Hi Gayle, just concentrate on yourself, if those antibiotics are making you feel ill then phone your gp for some that are kinder to you. If you're worried about the incisions just keep them clean and put a dry dressing on them to protect them while its healing. Mine got really itchy so I did use some antiseptic cream which I found helped me. I got tonsilities while I was recouperating which completely knocked me for six for a few days.
If you're straining for a bm then get something to help thats what I was advised as I couldn't go at all.
I've seen alot of people come and go from this site as they get better and don't need the support that the site gives anymore.
Don't rush into eating those foods that you haven't eaten for a while but take it easy and try a little at a time. It is nerve wracking, I know I'm still cautious but I can eat everything now just smaller amounts.
Get yourself well, rest, drink plenty of fluids and take it easy don't rush it.
Take care and keep me updated on your progress. x

Thanks Terry, yes that's true... Glad to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It doesn't feel like it at the moment!
