Hi Nika8282. After three months with a draining seton I had FiLac in October.  Unfortunately it did not work, but improved things significantly in terms of symptoms.  So i Have decided to have another try with it in about a month or so. I will keep you posted. Good luck!

    Hi there,

Can you share with me any good clinic or specialist who practices this method - FiLac?

I have the same problem - anal fistula since 9 years and 8 operations...

    Thank you

Hi, as promised some follow up.

I actually tried FiLac twice - it did not work. I now had a fistulotomy and waiting for the results.

Hi Abdullah, I read all the studies prior to going for FiLac surgery and the success ranged from 60-80%. I am not so sure these numbers are really accurate (there is always some sort of bias in those studies like patient selection etc). However, recently there was a new study with 130 patients and FiLac in Turkey done from 5 pblic hospitals and the results were 40% success.

I am based in Greece and I went to one of the strong CRSs who had good results with FiLac.

The thing with FiLac is that if you try it there is no real risk (it is sphincter saving), easily repeatable and if it fails you can then become more aggressive.

So I think it is worth trying once; I wouldn't do it twice againsmile...

Hi Abdullah, I meant that I did fistulotomy, not FiLac...and still have strong pain...

Hi Stefan, I had fistulotomy also, but still get yellow drainage approximately 17 days later, which has me a bit concerned.

No pain overall I would say.
