Didn't sleep for 4 days, and now finally fell asleep but for only 20 minutes then wake up

Hi everyone, I have not been able to sleep for the past 4 days, I was getting so upset and nervous about not sleeping. I tried everything, did a warm bath before sleep, ate foods that are supposed to help with sleep, did meditation, went for some long walks during the day. I felt calm and relaxed in bed but for some reason I was not falling asleep, I keep tossing and turning and then just get out of the bed after hours of frustratingly trying. I felt exhausted.
The doctor has given me mirtazapine , he said it will help with the anxiety and sleep disorder. I took 30 mg of it and now last night I did sleep but it was only for 20 minute spells. I know I did sleep because I had dreams and remember them when I awake, and my partner nerd me snore. but its only for about 20 minutes and then wake up again. last night I fell asleep about 5 times and it was 20 minutes each time and then wake up.
Can anyone give me advice? or do they know what the issue is?. I have never ever had sleep problems in my life before, until now. I'm 30 years old and have no other health problems

You are having a thing called REM Rebound. and its perfectly normal after deprevation... Basically you're going direct into REM sleep (dream sleep) rather than going through the normal stages 1/2/3/4/REM you are going 1/REM/1 (1 being waking)
Basically your brain is needs REM to process, REM sleep is the only thing that without it we can't live - so we HAVE to have REM but the other stages are "nice to haves"
So when you don't sleep your brain will force the body to go into REM until you have repaid your REM debt...
Again google REM rebound
