Dietary points

Anybody have any points or foods that are reputed to be supportive or to be avoided while battling with PC?

I will set the ball rolling with:

water; the suggestion is that people generally do not drink enough water as water these days. Their bodies are chronically dehydrated and that may reduce the body's abily to remove toxins and fight infections including cancers. I tried drinking water and found as predicted that after a few days I felt thirsty more frequently than before.

broccoli: reputed to fight cancer

beetroot: reputed to fight cancer

Reputation seems about all that is available. There seem to be very few clinical studies on cancer and diet. Those there are at an early stage. Still I should be glad to have people's comments. I would rather be active than passive in battling my cancer even if it means eating my greens.

    Hi

I read cooked tomatoes (and tinned) are high in Lycopene. Here is a link to some details but being honest haven't really studied diet and PC sad

    http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/prostatesupplements/healthprofessional/page3

I have low grade (Gleason 6) prostate cancer diagnosed in June 2014, and have read it cannot turn into a 7. I am in the UK and I am on active surveillance.

I don't eat much meat and have Linseed (Flax) every day. No doubt there will be some for/against theories for the above.  https://www.oncologynutrition.org/erfc/healthy-nutrition-now/flaxseed-prostate-cancer-risk/

I stopped taking cod liver oil a while back as I read the 'against theories' sad My joints are not great now but is this just coincidence of stopping the CLO?

Thank you Soloco for those two links. I will follow them up. Sorry you have cause to meet me here. Still, I am glad you are there and sharing what you are learning. Yes, I read cod liver oil has disadvantages and I too turned to linseed oil. I am used to linseed. It was the characteristic smell of Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland when I was young. They don't make linoleum there any more and Kircaldy now smells just like any other town. I read that linseed doesn't have a balance of omega 3c and 3e. So when I have finished supping my present bottle linseed oil neutral I will replace it with (organic) hemp oil which does have that balance. biggrin I trust it will do good things and keep my joints oiled. And yes, cooked tomatoes seem to be the tops for us prostate cancer chaps.cheesygrin My wife gives them to me every day , but not every meal.

Thank you Soloco. Good to read that spinach can be helpful. I saw in the Eden Project that daily cucumber might also be helpful with reference to prostate cancer. It is already in my diet. My wife might consider adding more.

I question what you said that (Gleason 6) can't turn into a seven. I've researched this subject much. Six is a steping stone going up the scale. I was at 6 and my biopsy showed cancer cells. Watchful waiting is fine but don't get too complacent Prostate cancer is very serious. You must take action cause things don't get any better by just waiting. There is a way to make flax seed oil very effective and absored into the body instead coming out as waste. Just saying.

What's important to know that cancer loves sugar and an environment that the pH is on the acid side of the scale. That's a fact. Get your pH up to the alkaline side of the scale by eating Cruciferous vegetables and organic fruits. Stay away from GMO and GE foods, or processed foods. It requires a change of lifestyle. Keep your sugar in the range of 100 to 115 while lots of green, red and yellow vegetables just like our Mommys taught us. Doctors don't seem to know much about diets and the food pyramid will not help you for a special diet for cancer.

Thank you Peter. That is so helpful. Sugar I am keeping to a minimum already because being on hormone treatment I don't want to put on a lot of flab (especially not in the womanly places). If it is also starving my cancers then I am getting double value - at least. The pH seems more difficult but I understand that it is easily tested with litmus strips. Off the top of my head meat except chicken breast tends to leave you more acid and veg and some fruits tend to make you more alkaline. So that is a way of hitting back at the cancer that can be measured objectively. Great to have something that is not part of a belief system.

I don't know much about genetically modified foods but I am strongly prejudiced against them anyway. We don't buy GM foods but I am not sure that we can avoid them. Are they always labled? Perhaps that chimes with your advice to avoid processed food. I do that anyway but it is to avoid the salt as I am on a low salt diet - doctor's orders.

You floored me with GO food so I looked that up and found it was carbohydrates. My wife now gives me only unrefined cereals, bread etc.. Fast carbs are out for me. I find I am missing them less and less. I was a bit tetchy at first. I liked it better when she boiled the brown rice for longer. She doesn't peel the potatoes any more. I am getting used to that too.

I don't understand about sugar range. Please would you expand that for me.

George, pH is not hard to understand if it is explained with a simple reference. Think of a ruler that is 14 inches long. At the midpoint seven is considered neutral. Anything below seven is acidic and anything above seven is alkaline. 7.4 is considered a healthy range. If one has cancer it is ideal for one to bring his pH up to eight. Cancer does not grow nor sustain itself an alkaline environment. A slightly acid condition expels oxygen while a slightly alkaline condition absorbs hundreds of times more oxygen. Why this is important to understand is that cancer cells are anaerobic (don't take in oxygen) while normal cells take in oxygen. It is the red blood cells that carry the oxygen through the body. What's going on in a cancer cell, a fungus is fermenting and changing the DNA’s programming. Nobel prize award winner Otto Warburg discovered the manifestation of tumors years ago. His theory was rejected by scientist until recently they rediscovered Otto’s discoveries. I have Dragon Dictate on my computer and can go on forever. The important thing to know is to bring your pH above seven. The litmus paper will have a color-coded scale to tell you where your at.

Some food charts consider fruits as citric acid. But, the mistake they make is not allowing for, once the food is mixed in the stomach (Chum), it becomes alkaline forming. you are correct getting potato skins are alkaline food.

Genetically modified foods are outlawed in a number of countries. It is believed that they contribute to cancer as well as other maladies. They use DNA of bugs in the seeds of plants. It is found that this DNA is deposited on and in our organs. Most corn today has Roundup in the seeds. This round up kills bugs, just imagine what it can do to us.
