Yes I’ve had different brands of citalopram before and different brands of my contraceptive pill and they’ve never been any different, they’ve always been the same

    Hi Ben,

I would never have said that different brands matter until taking citalopram. I have been on TEVA brand since December but at the end of Jan had a different brand and after a few days I was back to square one with anxiety and side effects. Pharmacist said that although unlikely, different brands can have different effects due to the inactive ingredients too (Don't know how true this is) but I switched back to TEVA and haven't had any problems since. I won't get any other brands now.

See how you go. Like everything I think different people will have different experiences. Good luck! X

It's good to hear this as I have definitely experienced side effects when changing brands and not getting on with certain ones - spoke to pharmacist asking if I could have a specific brand and I could tell they thought I was imagining it!

The inside ingredients are exactly the same the shell coating could be different..but the brain will trick you into thinking your having a different reaction to a different brand...it's all mental

that's the thing though that was the first time it happened...I didn't even notice it was a different brand, so didn't process the thought I was taking a different one...but boom...was like I was back to the beginning when first started taking it!  But agree on mind - now I have noticed it, if I do get a different one I already think uh oh here we go....

I was the same. Didn't even cross my mind that brands would have an effect but when I went back to the GP, that was the only thing that had changed. Never had the problem since x

I had noticed a difference when I switched pharmacies due to insurance about 3 months ago. I didn't like the way I felt on the different one to the point I got off citalopram. It was a mistake cause now I'm starting over...the anxiety returned bad 8 weeks after i quit. I recently got my RX filled at my original pharmacy/mfg. It's cheap anyway. So hopefully, it will work again like it did before. Im on day 5 and struggling. But to answer your question, I noticed a difference.

They are supposed to be the same but some people have reported problems changing brand.  Someone suggested it’s the coating

I insist on same brand because I would become anxious otherwise!!

    Alumus is mine too

My 24 hr chemist stopped stocking it

Boots were the only ones that had it and they have that on file do I always get that one

Try a different chemist or ask boots to supply only alumus for you
