Different sized pupils

Hi,

I have been on sertraline 100mg for about 6 weeks now for depression.

Within the first week I noticed that one of my pupils is often larger the other one.

I assumed that it was a side effect of the sertraline (as I had so many others at the time) but 6 weeks later all the others have gone but my eyes are still different.

Any ideas or simmilar experiences?

Thanks

Hi Edward, I know Sertraline has many side effects but I would have thought if it affected one eye it would also affect the other!

Perhaps a visit to the doctor may be a good idea.

Hah...poor Sertraline gets blamed for lots of side affects. Do you take Diazapam or the likes as it dilates the pupils tho generally both eyes!!!!

Thanks - sertraline is the only med that I'm on.

I actually have a docs apt week after next - I will ask him then.

    Hi Edward

So glad i saw your post. I have just started on 50mg and my pupils are massive. Thought i was the only one!!!! I also have problems with using my contact lenses. Sounds strange but since i started taking it i carnt wear them. 😊 hope everything goes well with docs appointment.

i know this was written 6yrs ago but thought id share my experience of anisocoria (unequal pupils). 2yrs ago i experienced my first really bad anxiety attack which i was put on sertraline 50mg this was increased to 100mgs quickly, after about a week i got that foggy brain feeling and happened to look in the mirror and notice my pupils were both different sizes. I started to panic, went to GP who then told me to go to optitians who referred me to Ophthalmology. I was examined and nothing was found to be wrong. After a few months i was better and weened myself off the sertraline and the unequal pupils disappeared. I tried to find information relating to this side effect but nothing. fast forward to 3 weeks ago and unfortunatly my anxiety is back with a bang and the worse it has been ever so my GP put me straight on 100mgs sertraline ans guess what the unequal pupils have returned! so has the brain fog and tiredness! This time however i am not concerned about it as i have experienced it before. The sertraline helped last time and i am hoping it does this time too, i may not ween off so quickly though!

6 years later and I'm still on the sertraline - actually gone up to 150mg.

My pupils can still be different sizes!

I think you came off it too soon last time, I think I read that 6 months is usually needed. You might have been feeling better because the pills were working rather than because you didn't need them any more.

They sent me to an eye hospital 6 years ago who said there was nothing wrong with my eyes - it can only be the sertraline.

I have been on sertraline about three months and noticed my pupils had changed had eye tests seen doctors been to a&e and all said ok keep monitoring they don't think it's the sertraline I then told an Ophthalmologist who said it could be he said come off sertraline which I have for about a week now no change and I have been that worried I have booked and paid for an mri private to check is anyone still having issues and if so how long before it sorted its not nice at all.

I started 50mg Sertraline in March march of this year and one of the firsts things I noticed was one of my pupils being bigger than the other, 7 months later I'm now on 150mg and my eyes are still the same. One of my pupils is usually always bigger than the others. I wear glasses so don't know if that links but I've not been to doctors or opticians about it
