Different symptoms of Blepharitis

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie to the site and it's been a few years since I haven been diagnosed with Blepharitis.

For the longest time I thought I just had dry eyes that really seemed to only affect my right eye.

I used eye drops Refresh Celluvisc and bought a humidifier and I take both Hemp oil fatty acids and probiotics.

Since I found out that it's Blepharitis I do the typical warm compresses and scrub with baby shampoo twice a day.

But nothing seems to relieve it and it always comes and goes.

I seem to have different symptoms than most people in that I have NO puffiness or redness in or around the eye. I have a lot of bluriness (which is making me miserable), burning around the eye, dryness, and crustiness upon waking up.

Does anyone else have bluriness related to blepharitis and what are you doing for it?

Do the Wet Ones therapy help with the bluriness or solely the redness..?

Please help, I'm really worried....

Christina

Yes, I had blurriness. Sorry this is happening to you! Several people (including me) have had success with specific treatments... keep reading the forum, you'll encounter several plans of action you can try out.

      Hey NatalieLanoville,

I'm from Canada too! It has been terrible today. Very blurry all day and intense burning around the right eye. I do not know if the burning has anything to do with the blepharitis.

How has your treatment been working?

Hi Christina,  Sorry you are suffering,I know what it's like having suffered for many years.  When you say bluriness, do you mean just  lasting seconds or longer periods.  Blepharitis and dry eyes do cause bluriness which lasts only seconds.  I get sometimes a lot when eyes are bad.  Sorry I don't know anything about wet ones.  Like you I  follow the usual compresses and cleaning routine, although I have stopped using baby shampoo as I felt it too be too harsh.  I just use boiled

cooled water.  My eyes have been quite bad last few months and very light sensitive but mainly due to having cataract surgery in both eyes.  At the moment

they are quite good.  I also using celluvisc on prescription not Refresh one.  It was prescribed for me at the eye hospital.  As you probably know blepharitis can be controlled but not cured, although some patients have cured them selves I

believe.  It is common to have one eye worst that the other.  Just make sure you

do your shrubs well (I sure you do).  I have found that mine gets worse if I become a bit lax with the routine.  I have learnt that from experience. Why don't you go back to the doctor as ask to be referred to a opthalmologist if you feel you are not getting on top of it.  Blephasol solution was recommended to me by the doctor as the eye hospital.  It is quite expensive and lots of patients swear by it.

I have not found that it makes much difference but is quite refreshing to wipe over the eye with cotton wool pad.  I have also tried the eye bag which again lots of sufferers love, but found found it to be too drying and heavy on the eyes. It's all

trial and error really.  Also flax seed oil is often mentioned as helpful for dry eyes.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.  Let us know how you get on. Take care.

      Hi libralady,

Thanks for writing back! The bluriness comes and goes all day long. When it stays it can stay for hours and it is only temporarily relived when I move my eye suddenly in one direction.

It doesn't help that I also have intermediate uveitis and am extremely myopic (so I see a lot of floaters).

Yesterday and today I have had terrible burning around my right eye. It comes in waves and will dissipate. I do not know if that has anything to do with the blepharitis or if it is some kind of headache...

I have an appointment with an opthalmologist mid-May...I am going to ask her if my blepharitis has anything to do with demodex mites.

      I'll keep you updated smile

      Thank you for the support!

      Hello Christina

Blurred vision is also a sign that the uveitis has flared up.  How often do you see your Ophthalmologist?  When my uveitis is particularly active, my eyes are sore, blurred and painful.  I can telephone the Ophthalmologist's secretary and be seen very quickly but normally, I see them every 2 months.

I use Liquifilm drops and Lacrilube 'drops' at night.  The Lacrilube is more like putting vaseline in your eyes but it makes them much more comfortable.

If my eyes were as blurred as your appear to be,  I would immediately suspect 'dry eyes' and use my Liquifilm drops.

For the blepharitis, I use very hot water, with a drop of handwash in it [I am allergic to so much and baby shampoo is one of the worst] and a flannel.  I put the warm/hot flannel on my eyes until it cools and repeat a couple of times.  My blepharitis is under control and my eyes feel ok.  I

It was my Consultant who tol me about the flannel.

Wet Ones, I know nothing about and wouldn't use them anyway.

    Hello and welcome!

Nobody can give you any guaranty for wet ones.Try for 2, 3 days and see what happens..There is no much to loose and you can surely benefit ..Just read the ingredients and make sure you are not allergic to them.

I was sceptical in the start but it helps and I have been using it only for a week. Now I only do 2 times a day so morning and evening and it is enough as my symptoms were not bad when I started.

Blurry vision is one of the common signs of blepharitis and it is probably predominant in your case.Mine are usually red, itchy and bit swollen.

Recently I began using an eye bag and I think that is very beneficial as well..

I never used it before, Never had right knowledge and information about this condition.Anterior and posterior blepharitis are  linked often..use all the weapons together and be consistent.

If it doesnt do you any good, think about what you may be doing wrong or what you dont do and other say they do.../ Do the eye test and if staph is there, wet ones will surely help/

Very few people cure from this but it is very possible to have good control over it.

I see that  after years and years of suffering and friustration.

    Wish you well,

    Jenny

I will add a link to the Safety sheet for Wet Ones, which says, 'may cause eye irritation'.  Personally,  I wouldn't use them and would advise against using them on eyes.

I really think that if you have an eye problem, then you should see a qualified person.

Treating infections with antibiotics/steroids are not good for your eyes too.But it is medically accepted.

    Dear Christina,

IA friend killed her Blepharitis with an Avon Antibacterial Facial Scrub(with Benzethonium Chloride). Her symptoms were different  from mine.

I could not find that product any longer made with Benzethonium Chloride so I looked on line and found the Wet Ones (handwipes) had it in then and I had then ib my house.

As for safety, 16.5% out of 959 people are allergic can be allergic to these or shampoo, detergents, fabric softners and spermicida jellies. It  also has lanolin in then and some are allergic to that.

If not allergic to these items, you can give it a try.

The handwipe have .03% Benzethonium Chloride in them. You do not put them in the eye. Only put on eyelash area and bottom rim of the eyelash area.

Eye meds have as a preservative in them .01% BAK in them. That us Benzalkonium Chloride. That is what is in the hanwipes that Honjon on this site used in the hanwipes sold in the UK. Both of these ingredients are ammonium salts or compounds and work as an antimicrobial to kill the Bleph.

Everyone sees so afraid to try the wipes but yet most eye meds and a lot of eye drops have this in it (BAK) and put into the eye.

The draw back is that over a long period of time these preservative can cause eye damage I found out by researching the preservatives. Also, had to buy new computer as got bad stuff from internet in it. Waiting for son-in-law to fix that one.

    Sorry, back to problem.

I also found a Patent that used these Ammonium Salts in the eyes in 1966.

Better to use these then use the meds (like steroids with BAK) for a lifetime.

It is a bacterial infection and can be killed. There were 3 doctors who looked into my eyes and could not find it. They all said it would come back. I said it had been 6 months. It is now almost 2 years. Please read Honjon's info too.

One person had it for 20 years and had lost her eyelashes and Dr. said would not come back. She used the wipes and they are back

    .

    Hope this info helps,
