Hi Gayle.  You need to see your doctor and be referred to a GI specialist.  Ask that they do a Manometry test, which will measure the pressure [contractions/relaxation] of your esophagus.  This is the definitive test for Achalasia.  There are 3 types of Achalasia [1,2,3].  I am sure that Alan [from OPA] will respond to you with more information and advice.  Keep in touch.

I had the same problem. After every meal I thought I was having a heart attack and of course with that thought in mind my blood pressure use to shoot through the roof. So, I had POEM done. Chest pain gone but waking every morning with acid burning the hell out of my throat. Bad. Going for my second Bravo PH Test Tuesday which will tell them which surgery to do next. Aren't we lucky to become human lab rats?

I think you should definitely go to your GP and describe your symptoms.   There have been campaigns from Be Clear on Cancer about food sticking for three weeks or more.   It probably will not be cancer, but you probably need an endoscopy to work out the underlying cause.    An endoscopy, barium swallow test and possibly manometry would be the tests to establish whether you have achalasia or not, which sounds a bit more likely than a physical obstruction like a tumour.   I am not intending to scare you, but hopefully this will give you some basis for questions to ask the doctor about.

Thanks OPA Alan. I'm under a GI consultant and just rung him. He'll see this Thursday until then he said eat soft food . I have a prescription for Ensure plus drinks as I have crohn's so I'll use them and a soft diet. Thanks.

Been to my yesterday and spoke to him and he's doing a urgent endoscopy/gastrostomy Wednesday morning and stomach scan. At least he listen to me. But forgot to mention achalasia because I had been in a previous appointment about my heart .

When you have the endoscopy they may well find food residue that has not cleared, and that should alert them to what is happening.   But do mention the achalasia issue as it is an unusual condition.

Had my endoscopy today and they found in have trachealization of the oesophagus. Antral erosive gastritis. Had 4 biopsies. 2 in the oesophagus an 2 in stomach. Doctor said she removed a lesion too. They're looking at how. pylorI.

      What's odynophagus.

      They've put me on a 2WW pathway ?

      Odynophagus means pain when swallowing.

Antral gastritis is an autoimmune problem that can cause a lot of discomfort

The two week wait pathway means a more urgent referral so that you get seen quicker.  It sounds like your oesophagus is inflamed.

These reports are written in medical language and you really need to have a doctor explain what it means to you in relation to your own particular condition.   There are likely to be various other tests that they might give you along the way.
