Difficulty swallowing, clearing throat.

Posted , 3 users are following.

Every year at some point I get the sensation of a lump in my throat, I struggle to eat without the feeling food is going down the wrong way, this year it started around March time and I'm still struggling with it, it comes and goes but now I'm really conscious of my swallowing, my throats sore I think because I'm forcing it.

Does anyone else get this?

hi james! yes i have it for about 2 years now! been going to the doctors and even did endoscopy and ct scan to which all is cleared . i always feel that i swallowed and something is stuck in my throat. sometimes even affect my mood while i eat . the food can be so nice but i often scared i will swallow before i finish chewing and will result in choking .

i avoid food that i need to chew for a very long time like chicken breast or beef.

usually. i try to apply lavendar oil around my throat and distract myself from swallowing too much.

Hi, James! So, since you've already been diagnosed with health anxiety, it's very likely that your feeling is connected to that. Otherwise, I think it could be tonsillitis.

If you are doing some psychological counseling, try to talk to your psychologist, and if he/she thinks it is a non-anxiety related problem, he/she may refer you to an ENT.

If you are not doing psychological counseling, I strongly suggest you do it.

I do suffer from tonsil stones A LOT so maybe that could be it.
