Dilated pyelon diagnosis what does it mean?

So, I have been diagnosed these days with a "slight" dilation of the pyelon, which decreases post-miction, on the Ultrasound, after having months of pain along flank and abdomen. The doc suspects two most likely causes; VUR or "variant anatomy". I am 19y/o male, and I am asking, how come, and what can i expect now? I've never had any UTI's, which makes it even more illogical for me.

But, since I already know the (pre)diagnosis, what's the use of this?
Thanks,
