Dilation of bladder neck contracture

Has anyone experienced a reduction in kidney function from continuous bladder neck contracture (stricture) dilation as my Nephrologist is

posing this or meds as the possible cause of 67/33% kidney function.

After two previous Urethrotomys for bladder neck strictures a kidney stone blocked the urethra causing a blood infection. After stone and stent removal kidney pain has persisted ..but not as painfull.

Creatinine levels also jumped from 90 to 130 in a month but then came back down again possible due to coming off Vimovo (anti inflammatory). Blood results are now stable again.

I was experiencing kidney pain when the strictures, infections and stone started so I presumed that was the cause of the reduction in kidney function? I also have back muscle pain.

Did anyone have a reaction to the coating on the dilation catheter as I notice redness on the scrotum the next day after using the Speedicath 14fr and more frequent urination with flank pain. Is there other makes of dilation catheter with the coude tip (bend) that uses a different coating?

I haven't had the treatment you describe but I have had a lowering of kidney function after urinary issues likely to have been caused by bladder neck constriction, particularly nearly a whole year of recurrent infections. I've assumed it's the latter that has contributed to the former rather than any treatment or medications (I was on Nitrofurantoin and Tamsulosin, but now take neither).

      Hi Pepasan,

      Thank you for your reply,

Yes, I had the same thing about a year of infections.

My Uro wanted to put me on a maintenance does of antibiotics ..I'm glad now I did not as I'm 3 months without infections. I take Alovera juice which seems to be helping.

Anti inflammatories may have been the cause of rise in Creatinine as they are not recommended with kidney issues.

I didn't have any objection to 3 months of, lower-dose, one tablet-a-day antibiotics, and they appear to have been the one affective treatment that put a halt to my infections coming back. I guess without control studies our experiences could indicate that we are both right! We each have to make our choices with what knowledge and advice we have, I guess!

effective not affective - sorry for the typo!
