Disc bulge since 2 months

Hi,

I lifted heavy weight while doing exercise at gym that resulted in pain. Got diagnosed by an ortho. X-ray was fine. He told me to undergo physical therapy. Even after 1 month the pain did not subside much.

Ortho then told to go for MRI. MRI showed disc bulge at L4-L5. Doctor told its quite minor and no need to worry. Gave Vitamin-B12 supplement and told to go for physical therapy for one more month.  Do disc bulge pain subside on its own or do disc bulge shrink ? Its been 2 months and the pain has only reduced by 20-25%.

Pain is mild to moderate. Its moderate when I sit for longer period. Pain sometimes raditates to hips and leg. What should I do ?

Not sure if I should go for 1 more month of physical therapy as suggested by doctor.

Not sure if you're in ht right forum.  This one is for PMR, a rheumatoid condition.

I don't think you are in the right forum - this one is for PMR and GCA patients.

You're in a forum that isn't likely to be able to make many suggestions.

However - most back pain will subside in 6 months or so whether treated or not. Your physiotherapist is the best person to ask.

I just happen to have both back pain and PMR. I will tell you that many people have bulging disk and no pain. They don't even know that they have a bulging disk. So whether or not it's fixed is irrelevant at this point. Definatly keep going to PT. It may save you from a life time of chronic pain. As for sitting use a cushion. That's what I do. If you don't get any better with another month of PT then I suggest that you go see a neurologist. He/she will have you get an MRI to get a better idea of what is wrong with your back. Then he/she can make approrate diagnoses and a treatment plan for you. I hope this helps, but if you have any more questions you can email me by using the email me.
