Disc extrusion

Hello. I have had bad mid-back pain for many years that seems to be triggered by certain activities.

A few years ago I started to get pins and needles in my hands and feet, lower back pain and neck problems, along with other joint pains. Long story short, I was diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis which is now being treated.

But I continued to get the mid-back pain and numbness in that area. I finally had an MRI a couple of months ago. It showed I have a disc extrusion at T6-7, that is impinging on my spinal cord and possibly the nerve roots. There are also some bulging discs and degenerative disc disease elsewhere, and degeneration in multiple joints in the spine.

Given that I've had these mid-back symptoms for a long time (at least 5 years), and the pain is getting worse with time, is there anything that can be done about the disc extrusion? If we just left it, would it get worse?

Also, does anybody know if inflammatory arthritis could cause spinal joint degeneration? I'm 40, so some age-related wear and tear isn't that unusual, but it is quite widespread.
