    Hi Denise,

congratulations on your discharge, I get that you feel like you have been set adrift but with all on the support on this forum I bet that feeling will go very soon.  The doctors are always there and like they say I'm sure you know your body well enough now to know if something isn't quite right.  Good luck and enjoy the freedom of movement x

Trust me Denise you will know. The pain will be such that you will not be able to move and will need an ambulance. All other aches are part of the healing process. I had my eight weeks check up yesterday and told that aches and pains can go on for six months to one year. I have another check up in four months

Keep cheerful and do the exercises and you will be fine

Hiya my hip was done April 2014 and then left feb 2015...pain was unbearable, mobility poor, falling etc so life wasn't good. Right hip was perfect and recovery was very good,i was told up to a year for healing.Left hip not so good just hope in time things will improve. Have you had both hips done?

    Delighted to hear your news.

Yea....sounds like things will be fine. Now, at 8 weeks I was advised by physio the 90 degree rule was relaxed.. and as was said earlier you'll have excruciating pain if things do do wrong...but this is unlikely very.

    It's a fab operation....so enjoy the results!

    Good news Denise

I also had my 6wks post op check today and consultant was happy and said just go and do what you normally do, keep going with exercises to strengthen and walking, walking, walking!

It does feel a bit like I've lost my safety net but I can always contact the hospital or GP if I've any concerns. Consultant did say it can take 6 months to a year before full strength returns so I'm happy that I'm progressing normally and not feeling pressured to be back to normal yet, still walk with 1 stick.outside and have to actively concentrate on walking properly ie without limping!

But all In all I'm happy

Hi Tracy another hippy with a green light. Today I drove my car, sat on my normal low settee and toilets. Walked 2 miles whilst carrying my 8 kilo camera kit. Tonight I feel as though I have been run over by a bus. Can fully understand why I have to return to normal before having new exercises thrown into mix. But no hip pain just muscular and wishing I could have a long bath. Rest day tomorrow

So go easy as you acclimatise to normality

Yeah Anne I have done occasionally long, long walks and really ache afterwards. It's so hard to judge, the mind is willing but the body ain't. It can only get better! X

Have been doing up to 5 miles a day over the past few weeks but today was the first time I did it carrying a weight - he said I could.  think I have underestimated the low seating and the different muscles used to get up.  Driving too used different muscles but i had a dentist appointment to get to.  At least no harm done to hip just feel as though I have had a heavy workout.  so this will be the new aches and pains for the next few weeks.  Do you have a follow up in 4 months like me?  Did they manipulate your hip through rotations?  I was glad to have taken the paracetamol before I went.  He was really pleased with the movement that i have gained in my 8 weeks and hopes my follow up will show a omplete return to normal.  Gosh i look forward to bed tonight - not that sleep is good but at least resting

No follow up. I was done in a private hospital but as an NHS pt. He did say young females should get re-xrayed in a yrs time. I was delighted he thought I was young (51!) I guess I just see GP if any concerns and yes he checked range of movement which was fine, such a huge improvement from the rigidity I had pre-op

I choose NHS and my surgeon also works in the private sector.  Probably to do with my osteoporosis.  wonder if I am young at 66

Hi Mic, wish i was allowed a bath but have to wait another 4 weeks.  Never mind I enjoy my showers and allowed now to use the one over the bath which is a rain shower.  You are so lucky to be searching for these lovely birds.  Being a keen photographer today I captured a crested grebe with baby on its back - so my aching body says it was worth the effort.  My Mac has upgraded and stored my photos in a new programme and I cannot get them out for editing, so very cross at the moment

I have never been to Dartmoor.  But off to the highlands in june

Well here I am in  silly hour again, just had a warm milk drink and resigning myself to a couple of hours on someone elses time zone.  I am a Nikon girl and sadly cannot carry a lens bigger than a 300.  My grebe is a good snap for my own use but will not be enetered into my U3A competitions.  Do not think Red throated divers live here in leafy Surrey but do see the Black throat when in Scotland
