Discography - DDD L5/S1

Hi I am due to have a discography this Friday at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham. I can honestly say that I am dreading having this done.  I have a degenerative disc at L5/S1 and have been in pain since April 2014. Have tried chiro, physio, painkillers, injections to no avail. Pilates did help me though. I currently do not take any pain medication although at one point I was on tramadol and amytriptilline. I just take paracetemol and ibuprofen when needed. It has helped me a lot by having a stand/sit desk at work and a very supportive husband who does everything for me. If I still had to do shopping and gardening etc I know I would be in a much worse place! I still cannot sit for any length of time and driving is also painful. Any advice will be greatly received. Thank you.

    MrsDCraig.

I had the fusion done in 1999, I hear it's so much easier than when I had it done, I'm not gonna lie you will be in pain after surgery I was on so many different pain killers because the first surgeon wouldn't listen to me so I ended up as a failed fusion and been on pain killers since than, after so many injections the Dr suggested that I get the nerve stimulator, I am having my done on 9/24, stay strong and you will be fine. Take care and let us know how you made out.

Hi Cynthia70714 many thanks for your reply. Did you have a discography before your surgery? Good luck with the nerve stimulator.

Hi Is Discography where they check out the disc to see where the trouble is coming from?  There is a procedure also where they check the nerves & "burn" the one giving you the problem.

I am too afrain to do that but it was suggested for my chronic neck pain.  Let us know how it goes.  Good luck.

Hi Marie04645 yes it is where they inject dye into the disc to see if it creates the pain that is normally felt. Good luck with your neck pain.

      Yes,

I had it done for my back and also my neck, it. Seems scarier than what it is, sorry thought you were going for a discetomy if I spelled it right.ha-ha sorry it's only 8:41 am and my mind is still in sleep mode, I was scared because they really didn't tell me what they were doing, but everyone is different and some can take pain better, I was to far gone when they did mine, so I was in serious pain, but you will be fine! Positive thinking and prayers your way!! Good luck and you will do fine! Keep up your spirits! And you'll be OK, keep us posted!! Take care cindy

    Mrs.DCraig,

How do they do the procedure in the u.k? USA is so far behind hate to say it, do they put you under? I'm curious of how its done there.

    Thank you Cindy

Hi Cynthia70714 it is done by local anaesthetic so that you don't feel the original needle being inserted and then the finer needle is inserted into this and the dye injected into the disc.........this is what I have read anyway. I'm just a big baby but I know I need to have it done.

      MrsDCraig,

Wow totally different here in USA we have the disc taken right out, but like I said we are far behind plus my first disc erupted in physical therapy which they covered up stating I didn't go to therapy but I had a friend who worked there they shredded the info I gave them and fired the girl, but when I had the procedure done I remember being in a fetal position and was told not to move, and it was very painful as the Dr didn't listen to me because it felt like my whole leg and foot was on fire, it took a 2nd opinion to finally get the fusion, some drs in the USA do not listen to their patients at all, I would of been fine if they listen to me, but my experience was very terrible because of the Dr. I wish you the best and I am a baby also

Hi there Mrs D ,i had a disectomy in 2007 and had a further relapse 2008 ,they then managed to lose me in administration for 3 and a half yrs ,meanwhile i had went up to 220 mgs of Oxycontin per day, the amont of morphine i was using was frightening ,i had the fusion finally done in 2014 ,and it has made the problem worse ,but i know another guy got it done and he is like a new man lol ,my honest advice is if you can stick the pain !!! dont let them cut the prolapse away ,or if its early diagnosis as it would seem from youre notes ,go for it ,in the end Pain beats you ,youll do anything to stop it as i did ,or tried too lol ,ahhh well its better than some folk get .I hope you dont have to make that decision ,but keep in mind the possibilty of the pain increasing ,because mine did ,not what you really want to hear im sure ,but im just being honest .
