Discomfort after I eat and broken up stools

Hi all,

This has been going on for some time now, and I finally decided to go see a doctor who referred me to a gastroenterologist. I had the appointment, and soon I'll be tested for Celiac Disease and intestinal inflammation. In the mean time I was hoping some of you might be able to shed some light on the problem I'm having which is real uncomfortable! I guess what I'm looking for is people who experience the same symptoms as me and might know what's causing them or how to get relief. Onto the problem I'm having...

When I have a BM my stools come out all broken up into many pieces, as well as being semi-flat and sometimes a bit pale in colour. I experience incomplete evacuation where it feels like a little bit still remains inside my rectum giving me the slight urge that I need to go again. I often spend a very long time on the toilet in the hope I'll get more to come out. It's been a long time since I had a well formed 'log' that left me satisfied with my trip to the bathroom! I will get discomfort/pressure in my lower/middle abdomen and towards the inside of my rectum which is at its worst after I've just eaten. I'll get some relief from the discomfort after a bowel movement. Some bloating occurs after eating too, with flatulence and belching. The bloating will make my tummy feel sort of tight. Sometimes I get diarrhoea or constipation but not what I would call severe or even that often. In terms of pain I don't get much, apart from the occasional pain if I've eaten a big meal. On a few rare occasions I've had a small amount of blood on the paper when I've wiped, from having to go so many times during that day and maybe wiping too hard. I have felt like I've had a small cut in my anus before too, a possible fissure? like it kind of stung a little bit. That seems to have passed though, I do feel itchy back there relatively often though.

I think anxiety may have a part in this as I've been diagnosed with Aspergers and always feel anxious and a bit tense. I drink also but have tried to cut down and would like to eventually quit as I'm sure it's not helping with the problem. Could it be I just have IBS made worse by my anxious nature and drinking?

I have Aspergers and IBS; I suspect my anxiety triggered it. My symptoms are stomach pain and constipation with occasional nausea if the pain is bad.  Food causes no problems.

    Jase,

firstly and maybe to ease your concerns, many of us on this site suffer from similar combinations of the symtoms you describe.

I have been diagnosed with IBS but very little testing has been done to rule out other possibilities.

I looked at the low fodmap diet  and I try and identify certain foods that may trigger an episode and either stop eating them or reduce the frequency.

Some say IBS is triggered by anxiety but I am not convinced by that school of thought, albeit it may contribute.

i use mebevrine which does help a little.

If your doctor has diagnosed IBS without tests, he is obviously sure of his ground.  Tests are only needed if they don't recognise your symptoms or you have anything suspicious going on.

Stress is widely documented as triggering IBS. Everything I have read lists it as major cause. My doctor asked me if I had had any recent stressful events when trying to diagnose me. I told him that I had undergone several bouts of intense anxiety. He immediately recognised my symptoms as IBS.  My stomach pain always feels worse if I have been anxious.

I have tried Mebeverine but for me it upsets my stomach.  Buscopan and painkillers work.

Your symptomps sounds like mine. Only I am severely constipated and I mostly have the pain in the upper left side under the rib cage. Yea the pain is always there and never goes away. It burns and sometimes I feel it in my chest and all over of my stomach. It's been two years now. But my problem begin after I had the galblader surgery five years ago. For three years I was ok but suddenly I Belgian having problems. Yes I reaserch on Google as well and I keep ending up with pancetites. So I run to difrent GI specialists and I did many different Tests including MRCP all came back normal Thank God.

But the pain is still there itching and burning.

So I decided to watch my self when I eat fatty food to see if I get pain but I had no problem at all.

Then I watched to see if I get pain with spicy food that also didn't work. I didn't try alcohol beacuse I don't drink at all.

I find out that when I have the bowl movment I get the pain specially when it goes through the upper left side the pain gets worse. And if I am constipated it gets very bad that I cry out. sad

And beacuse of this I am kind of not sure if it's my pancreas or colon problem or IBS.

I had to cut out drinking completely. I have to ignore the 20 year old single malts in my cupboard. It definitely helped. Most of my problem is anxiety and I have ASD too.
