Discomfort until I pass stool. So annoying! What to do?

Shortly after every meal I will experience discomfort in my lower colon and rectum that is very difficult to ignore. I DON'T experience any pain, I just feel overly sensitive to the sensation of stool or gas sitting in there and will also feel bloated and tight and have the slight urge I need to go. After passing stool I will get some relief, although my stools come out broken up and flat leaving me with incomplete evacuation. I also experience a lot of flatulance and often the gas will get stuck in my rectum for a little while before it finally passes. I can sort of feel the little bubbles of gas pushing against the inside of my rectum which is relieved after I pass wind. Also when I pass stool it irritates my rectum as it comes out and I can be sitting on the toilet for 30 mins before I finally feel done. It never comes out in one smooth motion, always bits at a time. I've tried a lot of different things to remedy the problem with no real results and had tests done including a colonoscopy that didn't really show anything. I'm hoping someone here will be able to recommend something that has worked for them, that maybe I haven't tried yet. Any suggestions?

You could try taking a teaspoonful of Black Strap Molasses in tepid water either in the morning or before bed, has worked for me in the past.

I think we think about it all to much, need to stop worrying and desract ourselves.

You can at least take some comfort Jasein that nothing serious was found after the test you had done. I had a similar feeling on and off for months but given the fact i suffer from IBS and Diverticulosis i just think it is all connected to this condition. Anyhow i drink lots of water and excersise on a daily basis and i have just started to take the supplement called Slippery Elm.I take the capsule form although?many people prefer the powder mixed with water but since i have started these my?bowel movements have improved somewhat. Much easier to have a complete BM?now and not so much gas but i will still get an attack late in?the afternoon and evening every day. This has caused me a lot of despair but now although i?have given up being so upset and embarrased by it i still have asked for suggestions on this site for help?with the bum burpsrolleyes? Please google about Slippery Elm you will find it very interesting. Wish you well.

Have you been diagnosed with IBS?  If all your tests are clear, IBS can be diagnosed.  Your symptoms sound like it.  Try Buscopan and Nurofen for the pain.and try eating plenty of fruit to help you to pass stools more easily if you are constipated.

At least your tests cane back clear so that is a postive sign. What is your diet like?

I had bad constipation recently and was told to try many 'things' to help but nothing was working. What I was told to try was:

    -slippery elm powder

    -lemon juice in water (lots!)

    -more water

    -more fruit (especially apples)

    -honey in water

None of this worked but you can still try as it does for many people! What worked for me was eating lots of puréed pears/apples and magnesium tablets.

    So sorry, hope this helps

I have constipation due to IBS& Diverticulosis and it is a constant battle to keep on top off it. But i have come to realise it is not to worry over if i only go every other day that is normal for some people. What i do find that helps is dates. If i eat 3 or 4 after dinner they do seem to ease the build up. What never works for me are prunes all they do is make my flatulence much worse! As we all know what works for one person does not work for another. For example i take 2 slippery elm capsules a day one in the morning and one in the evening and they are very good. They make the passing of a stool much easier. I cannot eat any fruit apart from a banana and i have to pick the right time of day otherwise i get pains in my stomach. The water is most important of all although many people will differ on this but it is important to drink as much as you are comfortable with. I never touch over the counter medicine like senna pods for example they are not the answer. Also i notice when i do a long walk that sometimes helps. If you do find another solution please let me know. wink
