Discouraged with TKR

I have had two knee replacements and two revisions. The last revision was done four weeks ago.

I was told I keep getting infections and nobody can tell me why.

I have not been pain free in the last five years now. Anybody else going through this????

    Hi Patsy,

I totally understand your frustration with these surgeries and endless pain. I was in a life changing accident back in 2007 and its been an endless struggle trying to be pain free. Even with all of the injuries I sustained from being hit head on, my main focus has always been my right foot and ankle, but I eventually had that fused, and that's really helped with the pain I had in my ankle. I also had my knee replaced in 2011, and I've always had my good days and bad days with it. I battled numerous infections in my knee that required many debridement surgeries and I never could bend my knee the way I should of been able to. Ever since I had my ankle fused two years ago, its put a lot more stress on my knee causing my pain to spike. I had two more surgeries in my knee since the ankle fusion, both failed and ultimately my knee replacement failed. A lot of people in my situation would of gave up at that point and would of agreed to an above knee amputation at that point, but I'm stubborn and not ready to give up on my leg just yet. It was a last resort option for me, but I ended up having my knee joint fused in the end of May of this year. I'm still recovering from that surgery, and at some point I'll either need an additional lengthening procedure similar to what I had after my ankle was fused, or just have a sole extension added to my right shoes. I'm praying this will allow me to live with a lot less pain, even though my mobility will obviously be limited. In the 14 long years that I've been on this journey, I've learned that you have to be patient and and trust your surgeons if you feel like you have a good one! If not, please seek out 2nd and 3rd opinions until you're happy with one that treats you like a patient rather than a number. Keep hanging in there and don't give up! I'm here if you need to talk or vent!
