hi oscar i,ve not got the back problem but have prolapsed discs in my neck-at first the pain was excrusating, and way off 10, i would have cut my arm off had i had wire! i even asked for an anesthetic , but after about 3-4 mths the pain did ease, ok i,m far off perfect and still on meds for it but whether you get used to living with it, or just accept it i can get on with life , i cant work though or clean the house or mow the lawns and do my beloved gardening but this is what i have to be like for now til i get it sorted. hopefully i,ll be having my discectomy in the near future- myself and mandy(daisy-moo) are going to be having them about the same time . i symathise with your position but after a while you have to accept your limitations, and hopefully your pain will ease to a degree as well i wish you well, let us know how your doing gail

    Hi Gary

So sorry to hear that you have not managed to get your Blue Badge. It makes so much difference as you can imagine - being able to go to the cinema and shopping is just so much easier. Have you spoken with your GP? I know that it varies in different counties but in Hampshire where I live it was very straight forward and your doctor can fill out the form for you. It may also help you to stay in employment if you are still working as you will be able to park nearer and have employment rights under the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act.

All you need to put on the form is that you cannot walk more than 50 yards at a time which seems to be the case with most of us. The discomfort felt in shops and crowded areas will also probably help your case. These are all real symptoms that define you as a disabled person even if you are a little reluctant to accept the label.

We are all constantly being told that we have to live with our condition but hey lets have a little help from the spinal surgeons and physicians who are meeting us at their clinics at an alarmingly increasing rate. They need to educate GPs about the condition.

    Good luck and keep persisting
