The nurse said she couldn't see a stitch so didnt bother with ut. After my shower while drying i found a stitch. Do i go to the doc for removal or do i do it

If the stitches are dissolvable you don't need it removed. They do take a long time to dissolve and you can feel lumpy bits for several months. As long as it isn't infected don't worry too much and definitely don't take any stitches out yourself. Show your doctor when you get a chance or ring the nurse and ask her to come back and have a look. Best wishes

    Hi Sassybees

Wat ever you do DO NOT remove your stitches yourself. they will fall off when they are ready. If you think you need your wound looking at go to you doctors surgery and see the nurse there. you shouls not really be getting the wound wet while you still have stiches because infection can enter through the holes where the stiches are..

Sorry maybe i wasnt clear. I would never remove stitches myself. The main suture line is dissolvable or so ive been told. The nurse who has bern looking after me post op at home. Said i could take the dressing off tday. Yes i can shower etc its healed well. So i did that. And i can feel faint stitches. I was asking how long it takes for them to completely go. Has anyone had them. The other one stitch that stands alone above the surure line seems thicker and was quite pokey. Its one stitch and away from the main cut. Maybe a drain or guide rod. I was wondering if that would be a dissolvable too.

Scar tissue takes a long time to finish healing. Like about a year! Scars of this length are lumpy and bumpy and if it isn't red, hot or inflamed it is probably ok. But you could always check it out if you're worried.

my scar is not lumpy and bumpy, i am actually suprised at mine how flat it is, the surgeon did not use any stiches or staples so god knows how he did it

Hi Sassybees, I was told by the nurse that the stitches in the thigh muscle will dissolve in about 6 weeks as they are tough ones. The stitches in the layer of fat beneath your skin will take about 2-3 weeks to dissolve cos they are thinner.

I get my staples out tomorrow, Monday 28th, got 26 closing the incision together.

If you're not happy with anything about your THR then I think it would be wise to visit your doctor, even if it's just to put your mind at ease.

    Best wishes in your recovery,

    Mark

Your surgeon will have glued the incision. It's a bit like super glue but glues human tissue together, regards Mark
