Distal radius fracture complications

I had a plate and screws for a distal radius fracture 8 weeks ago i have been suffering with extreme pain in my thumb and the base of thumb is constantly burning and sensitive to touch my surgeon thinks it may be a tendon problem has anyone had a similar experience and can five me their advice i am waiting for an ultrasound scan but not sure if i should be resting my thumb or trying to use it whatever i do it hurts and burns all the time any advice would be gratefully received
