Diverticular

Has anyone got to the point when diverticular keeps flaring up, do you just keep taking antibiotics or at what point does surgery become an option? Are there any other ways of helping it on a daily basis apart from the usual fybrogel and high fibre diet? Any help would be great 🤔

Not at all Kelly, I had a colonoscopy 5 years ago because of constant changes in my bowel habits, not able to go out as I couldn't control what happens. I was diagnosed then with diverticular, since then it regularly becomes inflamed and I get an infection, where I get pain down my left hand side and my upper abdomen, I used to have to go to hospital right away where I would be admitted and put on intravenous antibiotics, however now as soon as I sense the symptoms appearing I call my doctor and he gets me antibiotics asap, I then can control it at home, however lately the infections are coming more regular and my body can't seem to recover for a long time after each flare up.

I also have IBS Kelly and that does sound quite a bit like that as well, have you had a colonoscopy? That's usually the perfect procedure to diagnose either, or, or both?

I had to have my gallbladder removed, since then my liver function tests always come back elevated so I had to have a deep scan procedure done, which showed signs of fibrosis, I think it's because of all the medications though. I just had a ct scan which showed diverticular in the stoma intestine, which is the narrowest part of the bowel, I get confused by all the jargon, don't you?

Well, what else can we do, there is some days when I just want to pull the quilt over my head and sleep the depression away, but that doesn't help. That's why I have not had a social life for so long, I really don't have the energy to get dressed and put that fake smile on, when inside your just wanting to have your old life back x

Talking about anxiety, I can't even open my door as I get anxious, even ansering the telephone, I sometimes just feel like I don't know who I am anymore, the worst thing is I've had a family in law member accuse me of just being a hypochondriac as I have to attend hospital and doctors a lot, sometimes I'm not well enough to attend family functions, I hate people who now take their health for granted, I can't really plan much as I don't like to cancel xx some people don't realise how lucky they are, thank goodness I believe in karma xx

Same here, I have a son of 32 and he really knows when I'm getting stressed, sometimes things just build up and he is the perfect person that talks me off that ledge, I worry a lot too much about how other people perceive me, and he puts things into perspective xxx I hope you have that one person also xxx we seem to just get each other don't we? Lol

That's good you have that support, I know a lot of people from these forums who don't have any support, which I feel it would make things so much worse. X
