Diverticulitis

Posted , 5 users are following.

I was having some low groin pain and urinating frequently. My pain was on the right side and I was starting to think appendicitis. Went to the ER had a CT scan and it is diverticulitis. Anyone here that has had it? I would appreciate your input as to how it was cleared up or what your experience was with it.

Lots of people have this problem and  its better to try and adjust your diet to avoid problems. The worst food is corn so do try to cut that out of your diet. Then comes all  products made with cows milk,Cheese, yoghurt, milk, cream etc and  all prepared foods with milk/milk products in them. eg,cakes/biscuits/chocolate bars. You may have to get in the habit of looking at all the ingredients in what you eat. You may be surprised at the foods that contain milk. Milk is a known problem and so is always listed in dark print.

I have had this for about 5 years . Good luck.

    Zapamania,

I too have diversticulitis. Painful when ya mess up..I tho, can eat most things but I get caught sometimes bringing on the flareup. I was told to avoid anything with seeds or skin. This is pickets in your intestines. Anytime you eat anything with seeds it can get into these pickets then flare up and possibly infection which can lead ya in a hospital. Strawberries, popcorn, nuts..you can look up what 2 eat an what not too. When I have a flare up I pull away from solid food and eat non fiber, soft food.. (google) I do that few days. But strange enough when it's completely better, I can eat popcorn etc and most times I'm okay. I just chew, chew, chew realllll good.. the pockets (tears in intestines) are caused mostly by straining. So when symptoms cleared, eat a high fiber diet such as beans..it will strengthen your intestinal walls. Again, lots of good info online..take care and cut back on nuts and seeds..

Hi Terrie when you have a flare up, aren't you supposed to be on a liquid diet for a few days and take an antibiotic? Did you have to take an antibiotic or were you admitted into the hospital? How. Long did it take to clear up? Tnks for your reply. Zap

Marina I am on an all liquid diet at home and taking an antibiotic.i am becoming aware of all the foods that are not good. You say you had this for 5 years. Do you mean you had diverticulitis which is a flare up or diverticulosis which means the pouches are present in your colon? Doesn't the flare up go away? Thanks for responding Zap
