I have had 3 attacks over the years and even the mildest one will knock you flat. Stay on the diet, take your meds and in a few days you will start to feel better. Good luck. JIm

What you are describing is typical for an attack of Diverticulitis. Your colon is infected/inflamed so will hurt, plus the medications are very strong and have nasty side effects, which include feeling like you've been run over by a steamroller. Please take it easy, get plenty of rest, and drink lots of water. If you are self isolating it should be easier. The side effects should start to ease in the couple of weeks after you've finished the course. Depending on where you have diverticula, your pain may vary in location. I found sitting up straight was painful, so tended to slump. It made driving uncomfortable. I also woke up with pain, which eased after I'd been to the toilet.

Although I'm not aware of any medical evidence, Diverticulitis and peeing for England seem to go hand in hand. I did think that the inflamed colon could be pressing on the bladder. At first I thought I was getting multiple bladder infections but the dip strip testing came back negative most times. I found if it eased over 24-36 hours it was not an infection, I just had to wait it out.

Hello. I was just at the ER yesterday with pain in my lower left abdomen, more like where my left ovary would be. I was honestly not too worried about this as my pain was about a 2-3/10. However, what worried me was that I was going to use the restroom like every 15 minutes without having anything to drink, and that was when I was worried something was wrong. I knew I had diverticulosis from a colonoscopy, but I am the poster child on what to eat to NOT get diverticulitis. I am a vegetarian, and eat so much fiber and good things, no meat, plenty of exercise. So now I do not know what to eat to not cause this again. I have not noticed pain worse at night. I was given antibiotics and so far feeling much better. Will go see my GI when I can get an appointment. This too shall pass. No pun intended.

Hello Legley11, I am new on here.. and was told 7 years ago I had Diverticular, but I had no symptoms or problems at all, until a few days ago, when I now need to go to the toilet 6, 7, 8 times a day and am extremely Nauseous and Hot at the same time, and don't feel like eating at all but know I must eat something .. I am a bit worried what is happening and what might happen next.. and I also feel pressure on my bladder and have to get up frequently during the night, but I am 76 years old so that is to be expected I suppose anyway.. but the pressure is new to me..

I have to have a blood test in two days time, but I didn't understand what it is for..

'Hello'.. to anyone else that may be reading this, and hope you don't mind an old person joining in...

    Thank you .. Regards Jean
