DIVERTICULITIS AND DIAZEPAM IS THERE A CONNECTION???

Hi there,

I feel I have to ask if anyone out there has noticed a connection between long term prescribing of Diazepam and diverticular disease?

I have both!!! My stomach was fine before I started taking these drugs and I have been suffering ever since.

Any else find themselves in a similar position?

The only time I was prescribed Diazepam was after my surgery, basically to calm the spasms in my muscles and colon. You do have to eat something and take it within 25 minutes because that's when you're stomach empties. I never did take the full dosage, maybe 1 in the morning and if needed 1 at night. I'm at the point now where I only take it if I absolutely need to. And make sure you drink lots of water. Hope all goes well for you.

Hi yes ive been on them since 1977, 40mgs a day, i had a very bad break down and was in hospital 9months, im now on 1mg a day, ive been withdrawing for 10 years, it was awful side effects, last year i was diagnosed with dd, ive seen lots of drs regards to this, asked about them long term effects of diazepam but was told that stress is a big issue, which i do agree, although ive not suffered as yet with a flare up, and don,t want too, i can,t let that 1mg tablet go, im 76 yrs now, and have had lots of worry in my life, so thats what i put it down too, not the diazepam hope this helps Anne

They gave me diazepam after a spinal op caused breakdown.  I cannot tolerate anti deps though but i have been on this diaz for four years now and feeling worse.  I take 5mg to get to sleep, doesnt really work, then 2 x 2mg in day.  I would like to stop slowly as i developed dd earlier this year.   Didnt realise it was associated.  How did you deal with your anxiety in getting dosage down?  I am not much younger than you
