Diverticulitis/Diverticulosis

After being on this amazing forum, learning a lot from amazing people, and knowing I’m not alone. I have a question can anyone tell me why so many people with this disease have lower back pain, buttocks and leg pains. Mine are only on left side . And are we suppose to be losing weight? The Drs tell me it’s not related to the DD. But I see people post those symptoms on here. 🙏

I lost 4 lbs. in a week. This is when I was having a flare up. I’m not sure about the back, leg, and buttocks. Sounds like a sciatic nerve. Good luck!

I can’t say with certainty, but when my flare ups were quite active, I received burning sensations on my left outer thigh. Felt as though my leg was on fire as it would wake me in the middle of the night. Doctor said it was most likely a nerve being pinched from being more seditary when I was having my flare ups. As for back pains, never really noticed anything outside the norm, but my L1 and 2 discs are already compacted and protruding so I’m use to the discomfort. Still not 100% certain on the leg pain, but assume the doctor is probably right since I was doing a lot more sitting and laying at the time.

My lower back pain only started after many DD flair ups. I never had any originally.  I also experience all over abdominal pain .  I think the more flair ups the symptoms are more severe.  That’s my experience anyway.  IMO

My osteopath told me that DD is often accompanied by spasms of the bowel muscle.  This can have a knock on effect to all the muscles in the pelvis area.  I too have crumbled discs, and she noted that my buttock and back muscles were a lot tighter when I was going through or recovering from the pain of DD inflammation or infection and actually spreads up my rib cage.  Another side effect I have is that the inflammation affects my bladder and makes me wee for England at times.  As the inflammation dies down, so does the urgency.  I now keep monitoring dip strips so I can tell the difference between a real bladder infection and just urgency.

As for losing weight, if you are struggling to eat because of the DD you will lose.  If you are overweight, you should lose anyway, and the smaller meals recommended for DD sufferers should help that.

Very interesting, according to all tests and colonoscopy I am not in midst of Flare up just have severe Diverticulosis, and I have spasms in colon, bad left hip, buttocks and leg pain. And when I did have my first flare up the pain radiated under left rib cage pretty bad. That’s gone now. Yes I lost 40lbs in 5 months now but I did start at 180 and so I did need to lose, just not this fast. Now I just need to get out of my head and start eating healthy and not be afraid to eat. 🤗🌺

    I have Chrons and diverticulitis.

When I have a flare up I experience pain in my lower back and abdomen that radiates down the front of my thighs.

    This is what I found:

Can diverticulitis pain radiate to back?

The abdominal pain of diverticulitis is usually lower and/or left-sided abdominal pain. The pain is usually sharp and constant. The pain may seem to travel, or radiate, to the leg, groin, back, and side. ... Patients with complications of their diverticulitis may have more chronic or long-term, symptoms.

Thank you, I did have complications, and now I’m just in Diverticulosis state, no infections or flare up. Hope it’s just a pinched nerve, going to try acupuncture.

Hi vickie and Ellen, I had my colonoscopy this morning, it showed nothing wrong, no infection or inflammation so they don't know what's causing back, rectum and leg pain, thank you so much for your prayers xx

I’m still pretty tender and sore, they removed 6 polyps and took a scrape of my colon for biopsy. I have 3 pouches of Diverticulosis in sigmoid . No Inflammation or flare up. So will wait for biopsy tests, and IBS and SIBO tests are set for next week. All my other stool labs are normal, no parasites or Candida of other bugs. I’m going to request MRI to see if I Have pinched nerves. My Dr says I’m malnourished and that can cause it also, on top of my Anxiety. So just gotta focus on de stressing and just start eating. I’m so glad you are 👌 and it’s a big relief nothing bad found. Did they give you a diet plan ? Well you rest up. 🤗
