Diverticulitis recurrence

I spent almost a year without a reoccurrence of diverticulitis symptoms. Then, 5 days ago, I had a definite flare. I've been on Amox 875 and Metrodiazanole 500 for the last 5 days. I'm sure it's related to diet. I'm not a sweet eater, but I love all things munchy/salty. Just a word of advice to all of my fellow diverticulitis sufferers: don't ever think you're permanently out of the woods. Keep up the good work with your diet. It can re-occur!

Oatmeal has a high percentage of soluble fibre but it also has insoluble. I have not tried it over the last year as I have thought that the insoluble part could be a bit harsh....not sure about this.

    Hi again

Yes, a salutary warning to all. I too had flare ups when I got too complacent. But so far pain free now for about 9 months. I don't know about oatmeal which can be a bit harsh, but I have rolled oats or cream of wheat without any problems.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone have the lowdown on oatmeal when recuperating? The internet says it's soluble fiber, but it certainly isn't totally liquid.

I find my stomach tolerated cream of wheat better than oatmeal. For some reason I feel fuller on cream of wheat than with oatmeal. Again everyone is different, so moderation is the key until you figure out what foods your body will tolerate.
