DIVI DINERS RE--VISITED.

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi every one ,It's four very short years since DIVI DINERS was started, and unleashed a tidal waves of

sufferers with a multitude of questions. which we all contributed to ,and did our best to answer , with our own experiences, as no one was available to help us through this trying ( very trying at times ). We were misguided and misled from the moment we shown the exit door of the hospital. Lots of unhappiness ,pain stress and not knowing what to eat, ,Fortunately, there was a lot of laughter to help us through .I made my mind up that the D. D was NOT going to ruin my life ,which was to be endured with baby type food, and ,plenty of water. and not anything that might be regarded as tasty or enjoyable ,

"Bad for us. " Sharing did help enormously with lots of suggestions ,trial and error ,and a LOT of reading

and trust .The main thing I found was the Probiotic . which I have taken two a day religiously over the past four years ,and never had a grumble, after a frightening volcanic eruption in my colon, which you will all probably identify with . I read that ,all food that was regarded as NOT to eat as it would get stuck in the

pockets and cause more Problems . I started to eat the "forbidden Foods " little at a time , small meals.

with an open mind ,and ,confidence that nothing bad would happen ... Now ,,,I eat most things ,and I am really glad to report that nothing causes my colon misery .I do not eat beef ,never liked it much anyway ,probably because I could never cook it properly . Lots of fish ,chicken , skin removed fruit ,even nuts.

Bowels are incredibly important, The conveyor belt of refuse has to be kept moving ,DAILY, and if feel a

hitch in the mechanics ,a dose of Lactulose ,immediately ,,puts things back on the move .

I would love to hear from the OLD timers to hear if you are in charge, and if you have got rid of the fear that D.D can cause.

fond memories to all of you

    Hi,

I may not be an old timer but last year on Feb 1 was my first attack. I found this forum and have read everything posted. I appreciate hearing from you four years later. It is encouraging to know you have progressed in your food choices. I am taking baby steps to progress too.

Although I am never sure quite what to eat. A year ago I feared never eating a real salad again or a slice of pizza! I have been able to eat both of those things. Although limited items on the salad . I still have not ventured into the world of beans except for green beans. I am not sure of kidney, black, chick peas etc. I also do not eat blueberries or oatmeal which I have eaten for years until DD. I do not eat red meat now and I am okay with that.

What I miss is normal vegetables and fruit like broccoli and bananas and grapes. What about rice? I have heard not to eat that. So still I struggle daily wondering what I can eat and if I am eating healthy at all!

I do take the probiotic as well. I am glad to know you think it is still important even four years later.Do you still do small meals?

Thanks for the update! I really appreciate it and I am sure others do as well.

I am glad to hear you are doing so well!

    Blessings,

    Georgie

Hello georgie ,sorry this reply is so late ,my laptop decided to SPAM all my emails ,however ,here we are ,back on track. I had to smile at your dithering over what to eat ..Did you read my very first stressed letter when I started Divi Diners. I could have starved to death. All the things you have mentioned ,are actually good for us, First beans on toast caused drooling .Banana and seedless jam ( i am still a bit wary ) remember that all tinned beans are mega cooked, and not a problem anyway. Porage with blueberries ,I do have for breakfast. Yes, I do have small meals,

but I'm not averse to a crumpet smothered in butter if I get hungry. I don't eat lettuce purely because I don't like it ,but radishes ,yes ,cucumber ,peeled and de seeded , Veggies are fine to eat, i love green beans with new potatoes ,broccoli , cauli, . If you are a tad wary ,just do a couple of pieces ,but ,nothing will happen ,except your taste buds will come back to life .Talk to me, I'm back to stay

      Hi Jacqueline

I was very interested to see your new post, having heard a lot about divi diners over recent years.

Diagnosed with DD about 3 to 4 years ago. Have been mainly handling the situation ok, but as I'm sure you and others know only too well, when things start to a bit unruly, old worries come to the fore.

I would be interested in knowing if anyone else in our situation has put on a lot of weight since diagnosis? I eat pureed vegetables and fruit a few times a week in order to try and rest the gut. I do this only when I'm at home. The hope is that it will enable me to eat some more normal meals if out with friends. As others have written, I eat mainly fish, eggs and chicken for protein. However, I find I have dreadful diarrhoea at times. This is kept at bay by eating potatoes, rice, pasta or bread, which I assume has contributed to the weight gain.

      Anyone else feel the same?

Hello U-Patsy, Have you never visited the Divi Diners site???? No problem with the "FAT " issue, >I think your assumption is correct, regarding what you scoff..

Do you still have flares ???I've been taking Acidophilis every day for the past 5 years, to keep the bad bugs at arms length.I bit the bullet, and eat almost everything that I ate before,,Have you asked your doc why you have the "Trots "?

Nice to know some of us are still hanging in there, but, to be perfectly honest ,I have no probs with it ,,just as well ,as there is still no one to run to for advice.

I think we all do very nicely on our own.

Hello again ,it seems that I have been put on hold !!!!Shame. Jacqueline.

      I wonder why.

      Hi Jacqueline

      Nice to see your reply.

Yes re Acidophilis. Started taking them during a difficult few months last autumn. They are expensive though so I only take them a couple of times a week and not every day.

I had a colonoscopy, cat scan and camera down the oesophagus last autumn. Showed inflammation and other bits'n'pieces, but nothing nastier which was a great relief.

As you say, we have to find what works for ourselves, but I am thankful for the advice and suggestions I saw on this site, particularly when this unpleasant stage of life began.

Enjoying the good times, though I have made changes which include not socialising or holidaying as I used to , in order to avoid possible embarrassing situations. Unfortunately, not everyone is understanding of potential difficulties regarding this!!

Hello ..NAUGHTY GIRL !! You have to take the Acid------ every day, twice a day. I buy them when they are on offer, two for one ,or the penny sales . Now and then is no good ,no build up of good bacteria . What does the cost matter if they keep you well .Just browsing for a farm holiday near the coast ,any coast. just for some peace and quiet, very good for reducing stress . And give my other body bits a holiday, may send them into a comatose state ,,!!!!

Please do the Acid----- properly ,you will find a big difference .They do come out fighting , a bit like your own personal army ...

      Hello again Jacqueline

I don't usually login to this site frequently, but I went to HB this morning and saw the Acidophilus on offer, so got 2 bottles. Will now take as instructed both on the label as well as your good self.

Like you, I love the coast, or any large stretch of water. So relaxing, good for body and soul. Hope you find something suitable.

I only come on because I get an email showing you are "Talking ". Might be a good idea for you to get two more bottles,. Yes ?????

I do miss living by the sea, get withdrawal symptoms, trying to find a house .

but the thought of clearing this one out is a tad daunting.

Jacqueline, thanks for your response that spoke to so many DD sufferers. I, too, take a daily probiotic. It's the kind that's refrigerated in the pharmacy, supposed to be much stronger than off-the-shelf products. I have no idea if it does any good. Like so many other people, I take it just in case. But my main comment is about daily bowel habits. I cannot overemphasize the importance of daily bowel health, i.e., going every day without fail. Even one day of constipation can put a strain on the bowels that can lead to a DD attack. I hope this helps my fellow sufferers.

Morning, I think you must have missed my stressing Bowels .bit .I would even go so far as to suggest a small dose of Lactulose on a daily basis .Just to ensure that everything stays soft. I did start off taking yogurt probiotics ,but it became such a chore ,shopping ,checking dates ,I went on to capsules from H&B Acidophilus 3 million with pectin .not a tweek since. Such a relief to have everything under control. I also think that stress plays a big part in our lives ,and does cause

problems in every corner of our body. Talk more

i have not been on the forum for over a year I think as I had no problems after eight months of low grade dd symptoms. just a nagging pain in the lower left quadrant which sometimes became a dull ache across the pelvis. I never stopped eating anything as nothing in particular triggered the pain. Since the end of 2017 i had no symptoms except the very occasional little niggle.

Since then I take a probiotic everyday.

Suddenly over the weekend the dd came back with a bit of a vengeance! Just pain in the left lower quadrant but radiating to the back and entire pelvis. Paracetemol does not help. A warm heating pad gives some comfort. I have started a soft diet and just hope this goes away soon as it is much more acute than last time. I still consider myself so lucky when I read the stories of others but realize that it may well be that my dd will get worse as I get older.

Now then Miriam ,,,,,just climb out of the dumps you have fallen into.. I have two more conditions that are never going to go away. but I have them under control

and ,not with any drugs. I recognise when there is a bit of discontent going on ,and sort it .One problem used to frighten me ,not DD ,and I fortunately still can contact my original consultant, even though he is now retired, and has moved WELL AWAY ,,email is wonderful. If I do get ,,"Do this " from present consultant ,,which happens very very seldom ,and I know he is not right ,I contact my reliable .man ,with what's going on ,and he sorts it, on one occasion, he said "It's just a storm in a teacup " ,,, and it was .So .Miriam .sounds as though you are having one. When I get a rumble from the DD. I take a shot of Lactuose ..go to bed ,lie flat ,and

gently massage the colon area ,drink lots ,watch T.V and stay in bed until It went away. This hasn't happened for years now, but I know that I can sort it .SO MIRIAM ,so can you .don't get down ,it's just a hiccup Age doesn't come into it.

Drinking probably helps ,rather than eating ,just clear the passage ways out.

Let me know when you are better ,and you will be .Jacqueline

      GO TO BED !!!!
