Dizziness and eyes feel weird 24/7 for over a year now

Hi All

Im David and from SA about a year and a half ago I had a URI (viral) which lasted for about 2 months , towards the end I had what i describe as massive head pressure , if i bent over it felt like my head was going to explode , this feeling lasted for about 2 weeks and then it subsided into what i call brain fog , a feeling that something is just very off and my vision does not feel right , i can see fine but something feels weird , also if i roll my head around or spin around just once i get dizziness.

I have had blood work , ct scan , 2 MRI`s , Angeogrophy , been to ENT , nerologist , had eyes tested and now seeing an inner ear specialist , so far all tests are normal except for a vascular malformation found in the temporal bone region which they think has probably always been there which explains my pulsatile tinitus but they do not think that the other symptoms are related , well not yet anyway.

i dont have BPV or a fistula nor is there any disherance of the bone.

This also started just before my baby was born and some people say it could be anxiety but i dont believe it could cause such symptoms and surely not every day all day.

I would appriciate if anyone else has experianced this and has some advice , to me it has to be related to the massive pressure i felt in my head because as soon as that went away i was left with these symptoms.

Thanks

Hi, I,would, say that a majo people have experienced similar,,if not the same. ,I had that same head pressure feeling and thought I,had a virus. 5 years later I am still battling it.

Sorry had to start again as this page is freezing and not allowing me to correct typos.  I think most of us on here, can relate to how your symptoms developed. likewise been through all the test, seen the various specialists, without any joy.  I have done so many VRT exercises that are supposed to,desensitise your brain, and supposedly 'retrain' it, but they don't,work for me. I now belief the medical, fraternity have very little, idea f what causes this problem and only seem,to,have very basic ideas on how,to,treat it.

Has anyone mentioned your sinuses? Although it seems to be going on a long time, it sounds like a sinus problem to me.

The exercises and my hearing aids have been the biggest help to me. My overall dizziness has improved by forcing myself to get used to the uncomfortable. My brain has been relearning how to balance. I wish it worked for everyone, but  I know it doesn't.

I would, love them to work Mary, but I have spent five years being uncomfortable and am as active as I can and I spend most of my days feeling uncomfortable, so I am 'adjusted' to as far as I can be I feel now.  I honk the longer it goes on,,of you don't get the right  treatment it is harder.

      Hello Mary,

My question is what did you do to retrain your brain?  In the past I watched videos with movement that helped.  But you couldn't watch them if you were very dizzy.  I may have start watching again.

Hi Marie. The exercises I do for my physical therapy have really helped. I pick a focal point about 4 feet away.  I use a metronome to keep a beat of 60 to start and turn my head from side to side for a minute (basicallyand count to 30 shaking my head no) while staring at my focal point. Then wait till the spinning starts to subside and count to 30. Then I repeat at least 5 times. I also do a set of nodding up and down. I felt awful for the first week or so but it gradually improved. I started out sitting but can now do them standing.  I have others that I do also.

H Marie,,yes I remember you.  My initial thing was I woke up one morning, after going to bed completely normal the. In woke up , feeling awful. Thought I had a flu, cold, virus or something. I was so dizzy I could hardly walk to the. Atheism and had to hold onto the walls.  I persisted with my GP practice to get a home visit as they thought I should walk up there (I don't drive and there are no buses to them).  hE was more than useless and said you probably have a virus, and gave the usual, advice,,stay in bed, plenty of fluids, blah blah.  I!pushed him for some anti B's as I said I felt like my head was going to explode!  Managed to get them off him and delivered etc.  felt somewhat better a few days later,my firstbyear of this,I spent more time in bed that out of it.  I had acupuncture in desperation and the first treatment worked, Hallelulah! For 4. Days it worked and then. It I came back, and all subsequent acupuncture  treatments didn't work.  vertigo, isn't the actual, illness, vertigo is a description, so you can have migraine associated vertigo, or BPPV.  all,I can say is it's an Equilibruim problem whereby our balance mechanism, which is the vestibular you (Like your middle ear)! Eyes and ears cannot work together because there is a problem in the vestibular system, could be damage (That's what I think mine is, damage from the virus,my it it won't show up on MRI's as it,could just be cells)! Crystals and lots of other things.  You need to,look,it up on google and there is all, sorts of different things it can be.

Gillian thanks for the info...it makes a lot of sense.  Do you think age is a factor --I am not young anymore.  I did start to have episodes when I was in my forties.  Through the years I had short episodes of Benign Positional Vert.  But last time it was not dx as such actually wasn't dx at all.

Are you in the UK -I forgot?   To make matters worse I have a very arthritic neck.  My poor hubby is probably so sick of my complaints.

Actually what you said is more than any of the good doctors had to say. Not getting a diagnosis is so frustrating.  Thanks.

Yes think age comes into it,,I,m 67 no, (Only 62 when it began)! But there at young people in here too, so who knows!   I've never had 'episodes', just the same thing every day which progresses to worse as the day goes on.  I also have arthritis and Crhns diseas, but the latter doesn't bother me so much now I'm older, and the arroyos 'mild', it was worse when it first started, but this is all many years before this happened, so I don't think it,is associated.  hOwever,,did you know there's a type of ear disease called something like Auto immune ear disease. ,Google that as that mentions dizziness as a symptom.  But because mine came on suddenly I'm not convinced I have that.   Yes I am in the U.K.

    Hi David,

One year ago I also started with strange symptoms.  I was dizzy & feeling much the same as you.  Also I went from doctor to doctor.  Back in August the dizziness just went away.  I thought I was in heaven.

But now I so have equilibtium problems.  Three days ago I was miserable with those issues & a weird head.  Yesterday & today better.

I do have a very bed neck with severe arthritis.  I do think it plays some part in how I feel at times.    This is a good site & I received alot of support & info from this site.   Where is SA?  I am in the US.  Hang in there hopefully it will lessen as times goes on...

I wonder about age inhibiting our ability to bounce back. I'm only 53 but have severe osteoarthritis on my knees, shoulder, and back. While my vestibular problems became severe with a cyst behind my eardrum, I've had some long history of medical issues that have aged my body beyond its physical years.
