Dizziness and vertigo

So I've had vertigo two times before about one year apart. My last attack was about just over a year ago. Both were after I woke up and rolled over in bed. Recently in February of this year I experienced a sense of extreme dizziness while I was sitting down at a restaurant. Happened two times, two weeks apart and both times I was sitting down at a restaurant. I would suddenly get this sense of extreme dizziness out of no where like the room is about to spin if I do any sudden head movements but I never actually see it spin. I just feel like the room could move or tilt and very off balanced if I were to stand up. My vision gets a bit blurry and my head feels woozy and I sort of zone everyone out. It only happens for approximately 5 seconds and when I understand that I'm experiencing a dizziness episode I can sort of just snap myself out of it and then everything is back to normal. I don't think its BPPV as i dont make any sudden headmovements before these attacks happen. I'm worried that what Im experiencing is a seizure of some sort? I also have problems with "clearing/popping" my right ear. It feels clogged sometimes and I was told I could possibly have eustachian tube dysfunction in my right ear.

If you have any idea what's going on with me that would be great!

hi it sounds like BPPV to me as you said you got it twice when rolling over in bed. even the slightest head movement could cause vertigo or a floating sensation.

the only way to tell is to try the hallpike test. you can check this out on the internet. if this is positive then its more likely BPPV. you can then treat it with with the eply. i also get the dizziness you described when i sit down or get up.

i also can snap out if it before the spinning starts by moving position.

if its eustachian tube you can try nasel spray from the doctor which is what i also thought

Hey thanks for your response! I did the hallpike test and i didnt get dizzy so Im not sure if it's BPPV. I actually just got the same sense of dizziness again while i was sitting down and eating at a restaurant. I felt suddenly very unbalanced and vision was a bit blurry. It's like a weird wave of dizziness that washes over me and I have no idea what triggered it. Lasted a few seconds.

I don't actually get the vertigo. i get a floating sensation like im on a boat when im sitting or laying down. was told i have BPPV.

vestibular exercise helped and antihistamines. maybe try checking your eyes out and using a steroid nasel spray. hope you find answers

Ok thanks! Have you ever seen your surroundings spin? And do you also get it when you've been sitting down for a while or when you physically sit down?

i first got a spinning sensation in bed when i moved position and got it again a few days later when Laying on the same side so figured it's to do with my right ear. that was in December. its gone now but it only seems to disappear for a week. now i don't get the spinning sensation as i seem to be able to control it by moving into a standing position and walking.

the floating sensation can happen when sitting down for awhile not as soon as i sit down and when laying down. it's completely gone when i go for a walk but only if I'm outside which is a bit odd. if i feel dizzy i do the vestibular exercises which makes me more dizzy but disappears for hours afterwards. have you tried the eply? i tried that recently and my head was spinning so much it was horrible. i think that's also a way of knowing if its bppv. i didn't get vertigo at all when i did the eply in December so didn't think it was bpvv but the doctor thinks it is.

can i also add my dizziness has now gone. ive been doing a manoeuvre similar to the eply and vestibular exercises which is eye and head movements which makes you dizzy but improved considerably.

I had the same sensation for about 3 months before I was hit with a massive vertigo attack. After the vertigo attack, I was originally told it was Vestibular Neuritis and then BPPV. No idea what it actually was or is. I had issues for about a year after the vertigo attack and then recovered to around 90% of my pre-attack level. I would recommend that you keep pressing for an answer so that you do not end up with more issues if it goes unresolved. I was on Losartan HCTZ at the time and still feel that that drug was the beginning of the issues for me. My left ear was full for almost a year and that was probably due to eustachian tube dysfunction.

BPPV is usually related to certain head movements. If the Dix-Hallpike maneuver didn't illicit a dizzy response it probably is not BPPV.

i didn't get a positive result from the hallpike test back in December that's probably because it had resolved even though i still had the floating sensation but wen i did the hallpike this month i felt dizzy so its very confusing and still don't know whether i got BPPV ot not. i think you need to do the hallpike test when you have some sort of dizziness when you know it hasn't gone.
