Dizziness, disconnected feeling, burning skin sensations am I having a breakdown.

56 year old male (widower), under an enormous amount of stress and anxiety - work, health, life. Have been experiencing dizziness (but not spinning sensation) that comes and go, but seems to be exasperated by stressful situations, strange burning pains in arm and shoulders which have appeared since starting and stopping sertraline. Currently on propranolol but that has also given me side effects. Feeling light headed and spaced out at times , concentration levels altered and getting brain fog. My vision is not blurred or seeing double, but feels kind of flat and not able to refocus easily. Initially had quite a few headaches when starting the propranolol but that's better now. Feels like my head is heavy and dropping. Over the past 9 months have tried duloxetine, sertraline, mirtazapine and propranolol - all of which have there side effects. Can all of these symptoms be associated with stress or am I having some sort of breakdown?

Don't feel I can go on like this much longer.

Andrew you are describing exactly what started happening to me in my late 20s. I am now in my 60s but back then I was under an enormous amount of stress and anxiety starting in elementary school. It just kept building up and building up until finally my body couldn’t take any more and I ended up having multiple strange symptoms like yours plus a few more. I told my parents I think there’s something really wrong with me.

A neurologist did some testing which was normal.

To make A long story short, the symptoms lingered for quite a while and to this day I still get some of them when I am very anxious.

The body can only take so much. Just like the straw that broke the camels back. nothing is worth losing our health over.

So my suggestion to you would be to find some support through a counselor or therapist. they can help you with ways to manage this. Also if it’s time for your yearly physical you could have that done.

I’m always working on my anxiety and some things that have helped me are eating properly, getting some exercise, counseling, reducing my stress load. I had to actually quit my job because it was so stressful that it was making me sick.

not that you have to go that far but it’s really important to take steps to relieve your symptoms and start to feel better mentally. The mental fog is the worst for me. I absolutely can’t stand it..

but yes, you can feel better but you need to get that support. Believe me, I know how difficult this is. On the outside I look fine, But nobody knows what’s going on inside. Keep in touch let me know how it’s going.❤

Yes, all these symptoms can totally be related to stress.

I agree totally with the other person who replied to you, I would look into some therapy and if you get a check up and you are healthy, exercise is one if the best things we can do for anxiety.

Also you mention you're a widower, I'm sorry about that, but did you know that depression can manifest in physical symptoms?

    All the best!
