Dizziness & Hot Sweats

I've been on medication for hypothyroid for a year now.  I was diagnosed first with depression and tried 2 meds before someone thought to test my thyroid.  It has taken me 18 months to persuade them to let me wean off hte anti-depressants I didn't need in the first place and am now just on 1my thyroid meds.  The last 4 days I've been having dizzy spells 2 or 3 times a day and in the evenings when I have finished walking home I have had to lie down and have had flushes where I have been steeped in sweat.  I am 29 no I am pretty sure it isn't "the change".  Has anyone else had this?  Is it part of the illnes sor a side effect of the medication?

Hiya, I've been on the medication from birth. But did experience this when I wasn't taking the medication properly and my thyroxine levels were low. Have you tried to ask your doctor for a different dose, or a different make of the medication? A different make worked for me.

Thanks, I never thought a different manufacturer would make a difference in medication?

Yeahh it really does. Like I was on the activis one and I felt sick and dizzy after eating and my thyroxine was the only factor I had that it could be. So just asked my doctor to change it. If you try that it will possibly help :-). And as for the lying down thing after walking home I have to do it too like always and my feet and legs always hurt after for like half an hour so k can't do much.

Thanks, it is nice to know you aren't the only one!  I have a blood test tomorrow, so will talk to my GP when I go in to discuss the results.  Cheers!

Aww definitely aha. I like this discussion board for hypothyroidism helped me figure out it was because I wasn't properly taking my meds that I wasn't getting periods...won't miss a tablet ever again now. I had a test last week dreading the results aha.

Have you looked at the medication leaflet within the box, I think these side effects are listed, you should go back to your doc to have the levels tested again. An intolerance to heat is part of hypothyroidism and sweating also. It could take a long time for yoru thyroid probs to settle down. I was over medicated for two years on 200mg per day and I am now on 100mg.

Thank you so much.  I haven't looked on the box for a while.  As i have just come off meds that could potentially have been intefering, it is possible I may be on too high a dose.  I'm due for a blood test tomorrow.  Hopefully this will be an easy fix if that is the case.

I take my pills last thing at night and find that the side effects are not as bad through the day. My doctor said this was okay and I am glad I have. Hope that helps you.
