Dizziness, imbalance, now tremors.

Hi,

I've been suffering from constant dizziness, imbalance and a general sense of "floatiness" since Apr 2015.

I've had seen doctors at ENT, Neuro, Cardio, Sleep Clinic and done a bunch of tests (blood/thryoid, brain MRI, neck ultrasound, sleep apnea test, VNG, hearing, ear checks, 24-hr ECG). All inconclusive. sad

In Mar this year (2016), I've also started experiencing mild tingles on my face and arms and went back to my neuro. To my dissapointment, he told me that the brain MRI done previously was the best possible test there was, and he could not tell what's wrong. He then ordered me a carpel tunnel test to address the tingles, and even that was unconclusive.

About a week ago, I started experiencing a constant sense of anxiety (that feeling in your gut when you get nervous) and constant trembling hands and muscle twitches.

What do I now, should I go back to my neuro?

What if he again dismisses the problem?

This is getting stressful and very fustrating.

All things being equal, I would do nerve conduction studies/electromyography to rule out the presence of a polyneuropathy. Your neurologist should request this.

      Hi Eleftherios,

He did order a carpal tunnel test where they can electric currents through my hands and fingers. Nothing found. Is that the same test you're referring to?

This is the sort of test I was referring to, but is not restricted to the wrist but to the whole arm and leg.

Hi everyone, it's been 6 months and still no closer to any answers.

    Depressing.

During this time, I had gone to see a neck specialist, did an MRI on the neck.

    Found nothing.

Also went back to the neuro, and again told me he just didn't know what was wrong with me, since the MRI I did last year did not show anything.

He also flat out ruled out Parkinsons, as he felt that Parkinson tremors only start on one side of the body, and spreads out. My tremors happened on both hands and face at the same time and twitching occurs on the whole body.

Also, tremors are now causing weakness in knees and I feel shakey while climbing stairs. Since last week, I'm starting to have trouble with uterine control and have to go almost every hour. Twitches are also affecting my sleep.

This is really starting to freak me out. I'm thinking if these are symptoms of MS?

Any update on your status. I'm at 6 months with the same thing. lightheaded/dizzy 24/7 and tremors. Clear MRI. Let me know if you found anything out.

      Thanks

      Hi natdavauer,

Condition seems to be worsening over time sad

Been feeling a lot weaker and wobbly in the knees the past week.

I consulted another neuro for a second opinion a couple weeks back, and he suggested I might have some kind of autonomic dysfunction.

Was given a month of Pyridostigmine pills but I not sure it helps much.

Going back to see my neuro in a couple days.

Any update on your symptoms?  I have similar symptoms, started out with intense vertigo that tapered off after about 4 hours.  Fuzzy headed headed feeling for days after.  Then I started to fumble over words when talking.  Up to that point, symptoms were normal with Lab or VN.  Three weeks into it, I started getting the tremors and muscle twitching.  About a month after that I started getting the tingling in my feet, legs, hands - it was very random.  Also more clumsy with my hands I've noticed.  This has been going on for 3.5 months.  I had a clear MRI (with contrast), EMG test for carpel tunnel and Neuro still leaning towards an inner ear infection.  Had all my bloodwork checked 3 times in last 3.5 months, all normal except Vitamin D (was 10 or 11 I think), which I am now on supplements for (Vit D3).  I can say that since the Vit D supplements, the tingling has pretty much disappeared, so that may have been related.  Fuzzy headed feeling only lasted about a week at the begining and now is gone.  I would feel weak in the legs in the mornings but that too now is gone.  I rarely have vertigo anymore, but tremors, twitching, fumbling for words at times and internmentent clumsy hands still remain.

      Hi blake,

      Wow, this is eerily coincidental.

I was hospitalized about a month ago due to really bad vertigo and had another blood test done. My vit D levels were found to be abnormally low (9ng/ml) and I was given D2 and D2 sups.

Overall, I do feel a little better, although there are bad days.

From what I learned, vit D might take a while to get back to normal levels, so it might be good for you to continue with the sups.

sorry, typo, meant d2 and d3 sups.

    Hi hyien,

I also also experiencing "floatiness", muscles twitching, and my hands/legs jerk slightly while drifting into sleep. Been to 1 neurosurgeon, 4 neurologist, ENT and they all couldn't give me a reason for my condition.

Any new update from your session with doctor?

Hi, hyien. I ran across this board awhile back. I have been literally having the same symptoms as you mentioned above. At first it was really a bummer, but now that I know that I'm not alone in this helps. I know this is probably a very late reply, but have your symptoms cleared yet and did you find the cause?

    Hey folks, been a while.

    Just a quick update.

I've been on Vit D3 supplements for over 9 months, gotten my D levels up.

    The good:

    - The tingles have mostly disappeared.

    - Urinary issues disappeared.

    - Knees / muscles now normal.

    The bad:

However, the muscle twitches are still there, and vertigo seems to be getting worse at times (past week has been pretty bad). The vertigo also feel like it's movement/eye triggered. Wonder if should go back to the ENT?

If you think it's all related, maybe go to the eye doctor and test that out. It could probably be the prescription of your glasses. But glad your tremors have stopped and your knees and urinary stuff stopped as well. I'm taking Vitamin D myself. Mine is REALLY low. Like, it's at 8 when it should be between 32-45.

Well, I did have my eyeglasses change a couple weeks back, kind of around when my vertigo flared up again. Not sure if a coincidence.

But if it's eyeware related, shouldn't it go away when I take them off? I only wear my eyeglasses when I'm in front of the computer (which is a lot of the time, by the way), but I experience the imbalance/vertigo even when I'm not wearing them.

Hey hyien. I know it was already mentioned, but it sounds to me like you are having vestibular migraines. Are you experiencing true spinning vertigo or no? The drug Effexor is recommended particularly for visually triggered vertigo. I would talk to your neurologist about trying a low dose to see if it helps.

Yes, I've experienced spinning vertigo. But these days they are really brief, like a split second.

But the feeling of imbalance remains, I feel like I'm swaying and falling over constantly .

This type of vertigo is almost always caused by vestibular migraine. I would recommend asking your doctor for amitriptyline or effexor xr. I have the same exact issue and the effexor is working.
