Dizziness lasting a week after a holiday full of travelling?

Hi,

Last Saturday I flew back from New York after a weeks holiday of sightseeing. I was on a train for a good hour every day and went on a boat twice during the holiday. The flight there and back is around 7 hours each time.

Coming home, our flight was in the evening so we managed to fit in another lot of sightseeing. Whilst moving I was perfectly fine, but on that last day I experienced a lot of dizziness and difficulty concentrating while sitting still. This continued on and has lasted five days now and with exams coming up, I need to be able to focus. (I'm 17 by the way.)

I went to the doctor on Tuesday who wasn't all that helpful but has given me Serac 8 to take three times a day. I haven't noticed a lot of difference, but the severity of each dizzy spell isn't too bad now providing I don't panic.

In conclusion, could anyone tell me what this is and if it will go soon? Is there any way I can help it to go and how long will it take for me to get rid of it?

Can you describe the dizziness?  Is there a feeling of rotation in one direction?  How did your doctor examine you?  What was his speciality?  Did you do any tests (calorics, audiometry, etc.)?

Beth ,Id say the boat movement set it off  go look at Mal De Dembaquement Syndrome ,do you feel like your swaying  this has happened to many after being on a boat. Or you may have just picked up a bad ear virus ,and clear up on its own . I've known some get off an aeroplane and feel their balance isent there . Drs haven't an answer for it sad to say  ENT the same . It's a mystery many will tell you as to why one minute your fine ,next it's simply just there . Did you get any unexplained neck ache whilst on holiday ,many again with balance issues have and still do . I've had Serc ,and Cetirizine meds for it ,plus arm bracelets they give for anti sea sickness , but never helped . The Serc take for few weeks ,they may just kick in . Hope yours just goes  give it bit more time ,Go on You Tube they have exercises for it you may look to try out . Do them gently . Wish you back well .

Mal de debarquement would be my guess as well. Don't stress about it as that only makes it worse. Try anything that helps you relax. Maybe exercise. Hopefully it will just go away on its own
