Dizziness way too long.....

Can't believe this is happening to me &/or anyone else.. Awful & the dizzy & spacey head is part of my daily life.  I have been seen by ENT doc, twice & he sent me to neurosurgeon (hve bad neck) after brain mri & Cat scan that doc said he didn't believe prob came from neck.  (get plenty of headaches)  My hope is in the neurologist I will see tomorrow. But who knows.  I am a older person & yrs ago I had BPV but that is not what this is.....I had lunch with my friend today & truthfully was not enjoyable,  I was going through the motions.  I need a diagnosis.  Thanks for listening.  Marie

Hi guys and girls. It would seem to me (I am of the analytical type) that certain conditions do accompany our shared condition.

Yes, sore necks are mentioned far too often for them not to be related.

Yes, whilst rest is essential, getting up and re-training our brain area affected by VN type malodies, in eye/hand/leg movements is also a must and whilst it is shear hard work and at times nausiating, must be endured. Have someone walk with you as a steadier if needed.

Yes. depression is part of the illness as remember, this is a neuro related problem and whilst not definitively explained by our collective learned doctors, is present in most posts you read on this site.

The tendancy to stay in bed, nice warm safe bed, is to be discouraged as it does not help the associated depression of this illness.

So, some are suffering far more than others (I am grateful that mine is just unsteadiness at times) whilst some of you are totally debilitated. I am so sorry but hard as it is to try, find out the eye exercises, do some walking every day and as with all virus borne disceases, drink plenty of water and a simple diet. Get well, please?

Hi jon & all that replied to my post.  You are all so kind & understanding.  People that have not experienced the nitemare of dizziness are clueless & it is hard to make them understand.

You are right Jon about wanting to stay in bed & wanting to feel safe.  Today I ventured out alone & I feel like I had drunk a couple beers (I didn't),  It was so uncomfortable &  plus my body just ached.  Believe it is from stress don't you think?

Hi Marie and Jon, I have learned that over the 4-5 years I have had this that we do, as Jon says, need to 'build new neutron parhways'. It can be uncomfortable and sometimes more, but it is a necessary 'evil' of you like.  I suggest you look at some of the videos I have been given by my Neurology Otology Physio people at the Hospital,I am going to here in London.  also my other therapist in CBT has given me some good stuff connected with Mindfulness, that at the start I was very doubtful about, but I am finding it really helpful.  If either of you want some of this info, PM me your emails and I can forward some of them to,you okay?

Hi Gillian and thanks for your reply. Yes I would lobve to know more.  My email is ___________  (I left gaps so as not to leave myself open to random email address attacks)  Regarding mindfulness, as an I.T. consultant I did a long and lengthy PowerPoint presentation for a mindfulness teacher and learnt about neural pathways, I found it so stunningly obvious about why there are links between violence and other behavioural issues with those who play violent video games and watch violent movies. Having said that I love Steven Seagal movies and have yet to hurt a soul (this after 20 years of professional Aussie rules footy, says a lot) biggrin So please send me what you can I shall comment in due course. All the best and I am so sorry that you have suffered for so long. Big hugs. Jon

Now Jon, how long will it take for these neural pathways to be established??  I am getting older & can't waste time smile.  I ventured out again today & did some shopping.  Then the bright lights got to me & I felt so tired.  I believe tension headaches from my bad neck are a big part ot this scenario (altho you can take meds for this prob).

It was interesting to read about the connection of violent movies & such & violent behavior..We recently & again, had a shooting in a movie theatre.  People are getting crazier & crazier in this country.  Guns guns & more guns.  I am having 2nd thoughts in going to a mall, a movie & type of place people gather.  On the other hand, you can't always stay away from these places nor want to.

May we all be dizzy free & I will be happy.

Hi Marie, stress certainly opens the front door to our immune system. I forgot to add to my (growing) list of symptoms my runny nose that I have had for the same time, (plus 3 days prior) as my latest bout, that is 5 weeks plus 3 days, WTH? I never have colds for that long and just to top it off whilst I was away last week trying t relax at Surfers Paradise, a [bloody] cold sore. Runny noses (or in some people's cases sinusitis) and cold sores (a known form of virus) are all present in one form or another in the majority of cases that I have read. Once again I say loudly and with feeling "Poor US". But Maria, I am one of the lucky ones where slight improvements come weekly if not daily. I force myself to go for walks focussing both long distance and a metre in front of me (not at the same time of course) and wonder at how good our brain eye coordination was before the onset of our problem. Doing what I call "Throwback" exercise in the safety of your bed certainly brings on the Dizzies but apparently it is worth the short term nausia and tiredness, so a short nap afterwards is warranted. I believe that as we are trying to retrain our brain in recognising the new set of signals from our eyes and ears (vestibular balance) and the brain, the brain is literally building new neuron pathways. Our bodies therefore are reflecting how hard the process is, hence the feeling or tiredness. Add to this that noone seems to truly understand the problem, no wonder we are stressed which of course exacerbates our situation. Thanks for responding to my post, it somehow makes me feel better knowing that someone understands. Warm regards, Jon

Flat on my back again. I hate this. So debilitating. Mri was clear but they didn't do neck and cervical spine just the brain. I suppose that is some comfort but what next? Just resign myself to the fact this is a chronic recurring untreatable condition or continue eliminating other potential causes. I have I think I mentioned a clinically irrelevant underachievement thyroid but who knows..those forums are have interesting cross over symptoms. I really wanted to get out today, a wild and windy day in Norfolk, but here I lay....best wishes to all

Haha * underactive not underachievement but hey both fit!

Sorry Chris --hope by now your feeling better.  I take it the dizzys are attacking again?   I hope we soon find out that this malady is treatable & fixable!!!   Not sure about the thyroid.  Mine went from underactive to now a little hyperactive so for two days I am not to take any of the meds. Then alternate between lower one day & higher dose the next.  I do not like this idea at all!.

When my thyroid was so under I had a foggy head & was chronically exhausted.  That is better now.  Now my head feels so tight & I am still somewhat tired (other meds I take can make one tired).  Do hope you are not laid up too long.
