Dizzy / Lightheaded Except When in a Car...?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I had an episode almost a month ago that was the worst dizziness I have experienced in a WHILE! I am currently suffering the residual lightheadedness and dizziness. I do have a history of prolonged dizziness due to what the Dr's thought was VN. I remember reading that dizziness/lightheadedness except when driving is a symptom of a vestibular disorder but I can't remember which one it is. When I am in a car it is the only time I don't feel woozy. Any input from anyone? Thanks!

i have the same. doctor diagnosed me with pppd due to an episode of vertigo but i thought i could have Mal de debarquement as mine began after going on a funfair. i have dizziness when I'm motionless. the more active i am the less i get it and when driving I'm completely fine but as soon as i lay down i feel like I'm on a boat. i suppose their quite similar.

So I just looked up PPPD and it definitely sounds like me. I constantly feel like I am moving and I definitely don't have Mal because I was not on any sort of transportation recently that would warrant that. I don't get it when driving at all. I don't get it when I lay down, either! It's there all day except when I am in a car or when I am working out.

when you first spoke about your VN i first thought pppd because you've had it for so long and I'm sure you said you had similar symptoms to me. from wat I've heard this is very treatable and there's a drug you can take cant remember name now.

I suffered with VN for three years and I was fine driving. The thing you have to remember is to keep moving. if you feel dizzy, just walk around the house, lying down especially to read or watch TV is not good. And I'm still doing vestibular exercises every day. It's important to do this.

So true. I actually think it may be PPPD based on most of the symptoms. But, I did suffer from VN/Labrinthyitis for a YEAR and it was really bad so I can't rule that out either. You're right on activity. I never feel it when working out or in a car or when I am busy!

I was never diagnosed by anyone, no doctor could seem to find anything wrong physically. After one episode of what I guess was similar to if not vertigo, I feel like I am on a rocky boat all the time, and when i walk its like my legs are taking heavy steps and trying to catch up with me. However, just like you all have mentioned, when driving. I feel fine, I don't understand why, but yea its the same.

I have not heard of this, first time hearing. What would this be?

its not that common people usually get it after being on a boat, plane or even a funfair ride or being on a train. the main symptom is the feeling of being on a boat

The primary symptom is the persistence of a sense of motion and rocking. Some patients may experience fatigue, mood changes and confusion. Imbalance is a common complaint. Symptoms often increase when exposed to fast movements, flickering lights and grocery store aisles. There may be transient improvement in symptoms with re-exposure to passive motion, for example, riding in cars or trains. After completion of the trip, however, the symptoms tend to recur.

Many people experience the more common entity labelled “sea legs” upon alighting from travel experiences. “Sea legs” are a transient, normal response to travel which generally resolves quickly.

Strange, I seem to have all of those, but was not on a boat, plane or fair ride at any point near when this all started, but it sounds just like it, but has never gone away..

you mite have wat i have pppd. Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness. a common cause of chronic dizziness.

Usually, PPPD is triggered by an episode of vertigo or dizziness. After that first episode, the person continues to have feelings of movement, dizziness, unsteadiness or light-headedness that can last for hours or days at a time. This is a condition with persistent sensations of dizziness inside the body (rocking, swaying, unsteadiness or uneasiness) that last for longer than 3-months.

i mainly get it when going to sleep. ill open my eyes and feel as if I'm on a boat as soon as i get out of bed its gone. very strange

Is there anything you know of, or can do, take, eat etc that helps the symptoms and lowers the time for recovery?

when you describe your symptoms try not to use the word dizziness.

there's so many different types of dizziness and 2 different types of vertigo like true vertigo and non spinning vertigo like the feeling your on a boat. people will get more of an understanding. this is what my doctor said to me he needed me to be specific. hope u don't mind me saying
