i use them every other day when able ( i work shifts) 5-10 mins a time with plenty of lube. ive been advised to put lube inside aswell as on dilators as i was getting pain when removing them.

i used them initially two to three times a week and only for 5 mins then built up to about 15 mins. Take it slowly and dont rush it and use loads of lube. I couldnt have sex initially after the op as the repair was so tight. Its been a year since i had my hysterectomy and rectocele repair and i dont use the dilators anymore as im able to have sex again without it being excruciating but it took a while. x x

hi there
my pelvic floor physio suggested them after I told her sex was still really painful after 12 months. spent $70 on dilators and they did nothing. inserting a plastic tube didn't simulate sex at all so did nothing for me, sounds like other ladies have had success tho. good luck

I would love to hear more from anyone on this too! Had my repair 6 months ago and sex is impossible. everything is so tight - even a finger hurts. it also is very rough around the incision area with scar tissue. Dr said this is normal but I don't know... he also recommended a dialator - starting small and increasing size over time. I've just been hesitant to try this.

Hi
I was exactly the same as you after my hysterectomy and rectocele repair.
I had my op in June 18 then started using the dilators about 3 months later. My scarring was very painful and i ended up having some removed in Dec 18. Started using the dilators about a month after that op and unfortunatly i have now lost some feeling around where they cut as the nerves are now dead apparently. I stopped using the dilators about 4 months ago and can have sex but only in certain positions. I would ask to see your consultant again to check everything has healed like it was meant to. X X

You sound like you're in the same position as me. I was really nervous to start the dilators also finding that quiet time is difficult! I hate doing it but reading the comments I know I must! I just hope I'm doing it right??

thank you for sharing . You said you had some scar tissue removed ? I didn't know they could actually do that. I wonder if that is something maybe I should ask my doctor about? I am definitely not where I thought I would be after this operation. I hope so obviously were that my sex life would be back to normal pretty quickly and that isn't happening.

Hi. I had scar tissue that was effecting me all the time as i was finding it really uncomfortable to sit down after my first op. Unfortunatly this op has completely changed my sex life as i have lost some feeling due to nerve damage but that may be just bad luck on my behalf? I would definatly suggest going to see your consultant again. I did try the dilators first though before i had my 2nd op which did help widen up inside but didnt help the scar tissue around the incision area.Gp's are great but you need to see someone who specialises in urogynae. x x

it was a sexual health counselor who advised me to try them as i still haven't brouched the subject of intercourse a year after my anterior and posterior repair as i have had so many problems with scar tissue and back end coming out!!
i am too scared to try as i it hurts just putting a finger inside. i have used them for about 3 months and upto size 3 so making progress.
been told to take my time and when im ready i will be able to have intercourse.xx
