do i admit defeat and beg for help

Hi, I need help! I have been at rape crisis for about 6 months 21 sessions on and off, who have been brilliant about helping me with the 2 rapes I suffered years ago. I would like to know whether people have had emdr treatment and whether it helped or not. Would it go down in my health notes if I have to see a specialist for emdr, I'm quite frightened of having anything untowards written in my notes as I am trying to move my life forward and look to adopt or foster. Will they just throw me out if I have had anything to do with psychiatry as I've already had a bad experience with ivf and just would like a future? Please help I'm so scared!!;

    Hi Sam

I can see that you are extremely anxious and very fearful today again.

You mention about EMDR treatment and that you are concerned about your health notes being exposed should you seek psychiatric intervention.

If you live in the UK EMDR therapists cannot disclose anything about your case.

My therapist even told me that if I saw her in town I should not approach her because of very strict confidentiality rules.

This goes for all other mental health workers too . (However, If you were actively suicidal certain disclosures would be necessary for obvious reasons.)

They would lose their jobs if they did so. So I don't think that you need to worry about this as its additional unnecessary mental suffering.

I would suggest that you have an appointment with your local doctor to openly discuss these extreme fears that you have, It seems that you need some sedation too.

As for EMDR treatment, you need to make sure that a qualified therapist helps you. As previously mentioned, EMDR did not work for me but others state that it helped considerably. Same applies for other treatments like ECT.

I would give it a go if i were in your shoes as your anxiety level is extremely high. Do you suffer depression also Sam?

You have not mentioned about receiving medication. Perhaps you have had a bad expirience or that you are scared of taking prescribed drugs. I know of many patients in this category.

As far as I'm concerned, I would not give it second thought about taking psychiatric medication to alleviate my suffering, which I have had for around 50 years.

Of course some will be of benifit whilst others can have bad reactions. Put it this way,  if I didn't take meds I would either be dead, or be a long term in-patient in a hospital ward.

You obviously need urgent relief Sam, and you need to consider taking suitable medications available for your PTSD etc. I would advise you to do this as soon as possible.

As for EMDR, I feel you need to jump in the deep end and give it a go. It might work for you! Until you try it you do not know if it will help you or not.

May the Lord Jesus bring blessing and peace to you....."cast all your anxiety on Him as He cares for you." Always!

    Hi Sam,

I agree with Jon, you need some help. Would it not be possible for you to speak to your GP and have a discussion with him/her about what further help and support is available? Maybe you could ask for a referral to your local Community Mental Health Team, then a psychiatrist should be able to give you a diagnosis and suggest further treatment.

In terms of Fostering and Adoption, I believe that every aspect of your life is looked at, whether or not, you would be turned down purely on mental health grounds, I can't say.

I will drop you a pm hun! X

Hi to both of you, yes I'll see if I can be sectioned shall I?  I'm thick me and don't know when to ask for help.  Isn't this meant to hurt wasn't I raped?  He took the lovely, innocent little girl that I was and left a really frightened adult.  Do you not think I've tried to shout help?  I feel cross with lots of people over this and I've done what I should, I've spoken to my doctor, counsellor and experts.  They all agree that I don't need medication, remind not to ask for support when I'm feeling low, I've just had the anniversary of my dad's death!  There's a lot of factors surrounding this but I am trying to do something about it.  Please if you don't have anything supportive to say then don't bother I need support NOT negativity!

Thanks for your response.  Sorry I wasn't in a position to tell you that everything will be wonderful and amazing - I doubt anyone on here would be able to either.  I have tried to reach out to you by sharing my experiences, in the hope that it provided a little help.  Clearly, it hasn't by the level of angry and hostility to demonstrate when asking for advice? help? support? I wish you luck going forward!  I hope that you are able to get the correct help and support to enable you to fulfil your dreams of motherhood.  Best wishes.

    Hello Sam

I've just read your recent mail and your concern about negativety. i hope that my contributions have not upset you.

I have very limited information about your case and I can only instruct or give opinion from what you provide in 'Patient'.

I've had 50 years experience of various mental health problems and I am well acquainted with the system ....good and bad!

Every case is different Sam. I can only draw on my own experiences including the "Terror" that you are suffering. It can be horrendous!

I cannot give you a full account of my traumas, especially the PTSD that began in 1987. The incident was so gruesome that even the police and CID were affected by it.

I've had first hand experience of many issues relating to mental ill-health, including treatments for Cognative therapy, Electro Convulsive Therapy, being sectioned, a host of medications, and lots more.

I do not think that it is wise for me to discuss further about my psychiatric history, as I can see that certain issues could cause you additional mental pain.

Your situation is fragile and the last thing I want to do is to upset you in any shape or form. I pray that you will feel better soon and that you have the relief that you desperately long for.

    Every Blessing

    John
