Do I have als? Is this als?

Hey guys, like you I have pretty bad anxiety. For the past 3 months I've been worried about having als, so much that I tore a tendon in my right hand from squeezing it to much because I was testing for "weakness".
Im 18 and I know that "it's unheard of" at my age but that doesn't really help me. I was just hoping that maybe there's someone out there that's gone through this and maybe you could help me. I was wondering if anybody out has ever had slurred speech, not anything serious like slurring every word but more like here and there you would have difficulty with a phrase or somethin. I'm very aware of ever word that comes out of my mouth, I know over awareness can affect speech but I need somebody's else's real life experience to help get over it. So if there's anybody out there that's ever gone through this and came out with everything being ok because it was just in your head, please tell me your experience, Thank you

Everyone can get slurred speech every so often, if we suffer Anxiety, however I am concerned regards your hand. Have you seen your GP regards having it checked. When you go for your appointment you can also discuss your Anxiety. Make a list before you go, you will get more out of your appointment as it will help you remember all points why you are there.
Try Relaxation Technique Mindfulness and try and control breathing. Your GP will assist by making a furthe treatment Pathway. You can also find books on these techniques on the internet or Amazon Books

Yes, I can definetly relate to your symptom of slur speech. But what other symptoms do you have? You said that you were testing for muscle weakness but was it weak?
weak muscles can be caused by many things that are not serious.
when I was in my twenties I had muscle weakness, muscle twitching, I would "trip" on words, slur words, just have difficulty getting them out , plus several other symptoms all at once. I thought I had some horrible condition. I was freaking out.
I had many tests, all normal.
All due to anxiety and long term stress!
?To this day which is over twenty years later, when I am anxious, I still slur words.
As a registered nurse I can tell you that yes, ALS does not occur at your age.
It occurs over age 50. You can rest assured you don't have it.
If you google you are seeing all types of symptoms, but you can apply most of them to most conditions. You are scaring yourself for no reason., and that will make symptoms worse like slurring words.
keep in mind that people get all kinds of aches and pains and sore muscles with the vast majority being perfectly normal.
Slurring words is just your body telling you that you are over anxious.
If you struggle with health anxiety I recommend you speak to a counselor who can help you manage it so you can move on with your life and enjoy it.
Take care!

Hi Jan, thank you. Really. And since your a nurse would answer a question for me?
When I stick out my tounge back and forth quickly it kinda curves to the left and I have to really pay attention to control it and make it aligned, or atleast slow down the speed at witch I'm sticking it in and out , but if we're to just stick it out once it's pretty aligned, the midline even lines up with my nose. Now, there may be a reason and that's why I need you, my jaw ( on the left side) drops slightly. My jaws crooked. and it always been like that. I've never even looked at my self in the mirror while doing the flicking of my tounge in and out of my mouth so I can't say that it's different. Also the curve is pretty small. Anyways I've heard of tounge deviation but my tounge stay symmetrical at rest and again I can move it which ever way I want if I just stick it out, no resistance or nothing. I don't have trouble swallowing or chewing. And yes I do hear myself slurring some words here and there but my own mother "which would know if I was hiding a peice of corn under my tounge from the sound of my voice" said that I'm speaking perfectly with no slur or slowness. So do you think it's just my jaw? Ive seen pictures of me from a year ago with my tounge sticking out and it looks the same as I do know, the back of the tounge on the right is elevated a little bit because of the crookedness, and the tounge alignment looks the same, and I wasn't thinking that I was slurring back then...so sorry for the book I just wrote Jan but I just wanna clear my head of this and you'd be the perfect help to shut my HA up for atleast a week,(which would be absolute paradise) but tell me your honest opinion on the matter. And for the weakness thing I tore a tendon on my right wrist from squeezing to hard cause I was checking for said "weakness" so no, I don't think a person with als could do that which really calmed me down about the whole hand thing. Sounds messed up I know...Speech is the last thing on the list I gotta cross out Jan, bring me home.... but again, honest opinion please😊 Thank you and thank you
