Do I have globus

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me, my doctor has diagnosed me with globu but I am unsure if my symptoms match it. I have listed some below

1. I have started choking to the point that I can not breath, this can be with food or water or even saliva hitting the back of my throat.

2. Having trouble swollowening some food and either cough it up or use a drink to wash it down.

3. My throat/neck muscles feel really tense

4. The muscels under my chin hurt

5. Chest pains on my left side for periods of 5-10 mins

As well as the above I do have a lump on the bottom of my neck, I have to point out it is a real lump I  told the doctor all at the same time and he check the lump and said it was fatty tissue.

This has been going on for a year and a bit and seems to be getting worse.

The doctor did no tests just looked in my mouth and checked the lump and said it was globus, my only concern is reading about globus says a feeling of something stuck in your throat, but food really is stuck like I say I cough it back up most of the time.

thanks for taking the time to read.

Hi Lee, your symptoms sound quite severe (compared to mine), if I were you I would ask the GP to send you for a nasal endoscopy. This is a simple and quick process where an ENT (ear nose and throat) specialist threads a tiny camera up your nose and down your throat as far as your vocal chords. The specialist will be able to see if there is anything obviously sinister going on and either put your mind at rest or send you for further tests (MRI scan perhaps). Just my opinion - good luck.

      Hi Richard

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I am thinking along the same lines really, how have you and other people approached asking for these test?

My doctor seemed to dismiss what I was saying and went straight to globus before he even looked at me. Is it ok to to say I want these tests done and can he say no?

      thanks

Hi Lee, I am sure you can ask to see an ENT specialist, you are the paying customer after all! If your GP is not sympathetic to you, change your GP. If anxiety makes it worse, it is almost certainly globus. Hopefully the ENT specialist can reassure you that you're OK then you can relax and let it go away. Good luck.

    Hi Lee,

Your symtoms sound pretty similar to mine exept I can swallow food normally.

Have you experienced any anxiety before this started? I would also ask to see an ENT to settle your mind and double check it all out for you. Do you find yourself consumed with the thought of your throat? I do and I find that it makes in allot worse.

I will be interested to see how you go, Keep us updated smile

    Hi Kim

Yeah I have noticed that if I am thinking about my throat or researching the condition it does make it a lot worse, I haven't experienced anxiety before or haven't noticed it if I have. I will keep you all updated.

    thanks again
