Do I have herpes?

Posted , 2 users are following.

It happend about a week ago.. Burning sensation on scrotum followed by appearance of multiple blisters on both sides. The blisters didnt burst however, and no sores formed, however a large dark red plaque formed where the blisters had been and peeled off after a day or two. About 3-4 days for the entire series of events. all blisters where in the scrotum near the base of the penis, nothing really on the shaft of glans.

History: last person I slept with was about 6-7 months ago (one time encounter). Didn't know their history, wore a condom which split, then had sex somewhat briefly after without a condom.

Terrified about this to be honest, not want to be stuck with this for life due to one very much out of character action :-(

Thanks for any input!

Onset is too long for a first outbreak of herpes (usually within a week, not several months), plus the healing time seems too short (usually a couple of weeks, not 3-4 days). Did you not go to the doctor to have it looked at or swab tested?

Don't think there would have been anything to swab really.. Went straight from blisters to one big scab/plaque.. By the time is have had an apt arranged I think it would prob have been mostly gone too!

Apparently the first outbreak can take months/years to occur, or so is read, which has me nervous...

      Cheers.

Only in about 20% of cases, and they may well have had a mild first outbreak that was overlooked. More likely in those with existing Type 1 (wherever) as well.

P.S. Most people have their first outbreak within the usual incubation period, which on average is ~5 days after infection.

Hmm so the episode I'm describing may not have been primary.. Though never had any blisters or anything like that before :0

Thanks for your input, your knowledge is very helpful :-)

Possible, or it's not herpes. Since several months have lapsed, you can test for HSV antibodies (IgG, not IgM) for both herpes types, but even if positive, it won't confirm where you have it. Type 2 can be assumed to be genital (very rarely oral), but Type 1 could be oral or genital. A positive swab is the only confirmation of both infection and location. And you're welcome! smile
