do i have herpes or am i imagining it

before i start id lke to say this site is very helpfull and i appreciate everyone that uses this to help each other out. anyway i had sex the on friday and done oral without protection but everything else with protection. 1 day after i got a sore throat and got imediatly scared. the following morning (2 days after the sex) the sore throat got worse and i found that my tonsils was swolen along with a cold sore on my gum.

on the 3rd day it felt like i was going to puke (gagging reflexes) but never because i had eaten nothing the day before because of the cold sore. however i did spit a bit of blood out. a few days go by and i found a dark red spot on the back of my throat (i do smoke daily). exactly one week after having sex i got this burning feeling near my groin and i got really scared. it is now the day after, i still feel the burning and itching and it seems that it is moving up my thigh, i also started to get this stabbing pain down my right leg and it felt as if the pain was moving down the leg.

im really scared and have an appointment to get a herpes test in a week due to christmas. also i was wondering how long the burning and itching can last before the herpes pop out.

thank you all for your time.

Usually a few hours to day or two.

Without symptoms to swab, you can only test by blood (IgG antibody test for herpes; forget the IgM antibody test, as it's not reliable for herpes), and that is only good at 3 months, unless you want to test for baseline purposes. Your mouth can be swabbed, but if the sore is healed or healing, then the swab test won't be any good.

Hi, I have a question that hopefully you could answer...so I I contracted hsv2 12 yrs ago. How likely would I to give it to someone? Or does it matter how long you've had it? Transmission rate the same? This would be with suppressive therapy and condom use. Also do u know, man to woman or woman to man, transmission rate? Hope my question makes sense!

Shedding decreases somewhat over the years, but never ceases entirely, so you are less infectious now than when you first got it, but still potentially infectious. With condoms and daily suppressive meds, the risk is significantly reduced.

There has been only one study on risk, which looked at monogamous discordant couples in established relationships (so risk percentages may differ if these factors are not the same):

M>F risk per *year* = 10% if sex during outbreaks avoided, 5% with addition of condoms, 2.5% with addition of daily meds

F>M risk per *year* = 4% if sex during outbreaks avoided, 2% with addition of condoms, 1% with addition of daily meds

Condoms and daily suppressive meds each cut the risk in half.

Feliscatus..do you have hsv? Can I ask u a question...have u infected someone b4 taking suppressive therapy and condoms? Also have u not infected someone with both suppressive therapy and condoms?

I wouldn't know, I'm afraid, as I have not had sex since I was infected. Currently undergoing my own form of detox to stay healthy, and besides the usual things to cut out, that includes no men and no sex, as that's what compromised my health in the first place!

Same here..I'm afraid also...but I'm really trying to inform myself so that if it ever came to that..and u seem/are very knowledgeable! Thank you.

Thanks, and happy to help. smile I also want to arm myself with knowledge just in case, but I have no interest in putting myself in a position to use that knowledge anytime soon, lol. This whole ordeal has really forced me to focus on me instead of searching for that elusive someone, which is a good thing, I suppose. Got to find the bright side in all of this!
